Q: Why did the Klingon paint his hair blond?
A: Because it was a good day to dye

It was a great battle- shame the graphics where up for giving us battle damage to the station itself!

True! Then again, the DS9 model was not CGI, it as a physical model.

Somehow reminds me of the arena portion of the Battle of Geonosis from Attack Of The Clones. Lots and lots of objects and effects crowded in a small area. You did better before, we've all seen it.

The K't'ingas were there in the original episode as well. Sadly, no D7s...

Yeah I remember watching them and thinking "Cool, Klingons still use them". Though the visual effects guys decided the torpedo launchers were now disruptor beam arrays. lol

Yeah, that was my big bitch with that.....they're supposed to fire torpedoes from those launchers, not phasers or disruptors. Β (Although hard core purists will tell you "Klingon battlecruisers NEVER had photon torpedoes....that was Gene Roddenberry caving into Paramount.") I had an acquaintence who heavily professed his "purism" for Star Trek, and how Star Fleet Battles was the most accurate game ever...and all that.Β You could not convince this guy that the K't'inga was an uprated class of ship from the D7.Β As far as he was concerned, K't'ingas were D7's, and NOT supposed to have photon torpedoes.
But yes, it was great seeing the K't'inga's back in action....and the first time, I believe, we've ever actually seen them in any kind of fleet action.
And the one shot of the K't'inga being blown apart by torpedoes...that was epic.Β
FirstFleet, this is a truly epic shot you and your cohort made.Β Β Very well done! Β (And at least you have one of the K't'inga's firing torpedoes... ha ha ha)Β
"Way of the Warrior" is what sealed DS9 as my favorite Trek series.Β Β And this battle was certainly one of the most ambitious efforts ever made for television, especially considering it used practical models.

It was a pretty epic battle scene. I did laugh a little when the D7's showed up, totally a "You don't belong there" moment. Come on, one torp from an Excelsior class could take that old thing out.

Yupp, the Klingons have red beams in the episode, the flagship has green beams, and the Feds use orange-reddish torps and phasers.

Yeah, which made me wonder, what were the K't'inga's firing (mistakenly from their photon torpedo tubes)?Β Were those disruptors?Β Or phasers?
On the point about "firing from torpedo tubes".Β That's actually not the first time that a Star Trek production has done that.Β Β Remember "Darmok" from TNG.Β For some odd reason, they had the Enterprise D firing phasers from its forward torpedo launcher on the neck.
In no Trek production for television, as I recall (except maybe Enterprise) did they have phasers firing from their proper places in the "movie era" ('79-'90) on Federation ships.Β If you remember in "The Emissary", the pilot for DS9, phasers from the Soyuz class starship that Sisko served on were firing from the lower sensor array dome on the saucer...not from any rollbar weapon pods, or not even from the emitters that were found on the saucer.Β Β I guess they decided to harken back to TOS, where the Enterprise fired phasers from its lower sensor array.

Nice shot
Although this ep failed in the sense,Β Β that with the firepower just visible here,Β DS9 would not have lived through one broadside;Β Β beyond the power of plot,Β nuh-uh.Β Β Β Β Β Β At BEST they would have suffered total shield collapse,Β worst,Β half the station would be plasma,Β and the rest going up in a chain reaction;Β short war indeed .Β Β

A lot of OP stuff in DS9, the station the Defiant lol. All done due to the writers not wanting to be cleaver or underestimating the intelligence of their viewers I think.

DS9 was better than most,Β the "Wall of Ships"Β and "Dogfighting"Β Β brainbugs were fully implanted long before, so not much to be done there Β Β Paramount insulting the fans only got worse the deeper B+B dug us

Majestic-MSFC In reply to kenham1 [2013-10-28 02:04:14 +0000 UTC]
I found DS9 the worst of the series to be honest due to the lack of direction and the almost copy and paste of B5 concepts. I think if Paramount had not influence the show and let it run it's course and the producers actually had a planned outline from the start (what they wanted to do and were they what to go) it would have been much better with less yo-yo (up and down) direction.Β

Assault on a Starbase is one of the oldest tactical scenarios Β Β many died before perfecting the method,Β and right now just in view are 50 disruptor arrays
Β Β Β In Firing Arc.Β And going just by scale, all in overload range.Β Thats a lot of pain
Β Β Β Unless the viking Klin are utterly incompetent (not an impossibility...)Β it'sΒ aΒ Bad Day (tm) there.Β Β 'Course, if it was John Ford Klingons,Β Β there wouldnt be a battle, since the Thought Admirals are WAY smarter than this
