Description
The Polaris didn't only get a new port with her new mission: she also got a new shuttlecraft. The new fighter, called Sonora II, was the First Fleet's present to the Polaris crew. She is a prototype, incorporating TMP-era technology and design style. Reports and experiences on the original fightercraft were assessed by her design team to build the new version. The prototype is somewhet bigger than her predecessor, with fold-out wings and landing gear. If the old Sonora was the F-14 Tomcat, this beast is the F-22 Raptor. And yes, ladies and gentlemen, I animated both the wings and the landing gear. They look awesome

I'd say the Sonara passed its trial run with *flying* colors. x-)

The wings are retractable, so yeah, I think she would fit inside...

Fighters in Trek have been notoriously difficult to design a look that is 'cool', but also fits in with the Star Trek design style.
I'd like to see more shots of it...but I think you might have that here.

Yeah. I actually just saw an Andrew Probert design for the fan-film "Yorktown: A Time to Heal". That could be a start...

Thank you!
Yeah, she was, in a way, inspired by the F-22 Raptor.

Are you going to Upgrade the Polaris any? I'd be curious to see what a Phase II Polaris would look like

No, she won't be upgraded, visually. Of course, she has many new internal machinery, explained in my new ficlet "Fly-out".
A Phase II variant does exist for the Pallada class, but only one ship was ever upgraded, the First Fleet flagship USS Umbriel.
