Description My take on the cool Warp speed effect from Star Trek Beyond. It reminds me of a Mach cone...

Model by me
I don't know who made the energy trail. If you know the original author of it is, pls tell me and I'll update the description

Indeed, I think it's the best looking Warp effect ever shown in Trek.

Heck yes. And Mr. Quinto's reaction to seeing it is was so perfect, as though Spock was feeling it with us all.

Timberwolf1969 [2016-07-30 22:25:15 +0000 UTC]

It is something similar. It's a subspace wake, caused by the moving warp bubble around the ship.
Interestingly, from inside the ship, it more resembles a slightly fluctuating tunnel.

paws4thot In reply to Timberwolf1969 [2016-08-01 10:52:32 +0000 UTC]

That makes more sense, based on my books etc which all talk about a "warp bubble" around the ship.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Timberwolf1969 In reply to paws4thot [2016-08-03 12:54:35 +0000 UTC]

If I understand the theory behind it right, the "warp bubble" is a gravitational bubble, strong enough to bend spacetime in a manner that FTL-travel gets possible.

paws4thot In reply to Timberwolf1969 [2016-08-03 13:50:48 +0000 UTC]

That would make some sort of sense yes.

stod-stories [2016-07-30 20:16:50 +0000 UTC]

I remember a book called "Star Trek: Federation" where Zefram Cochrane drew out a warp field & it looked like the badge the Enterprise crew wore in TOS. Pretty good read, actually. It was kind of cool to see it sort-of-hearkened to in Beyond.

I think this is probably the best warp visualization ever, showing the 'bubble' of the space warp around the ship. Personally I thought it was like a bullet going through ballistic gel or water. It also reminds me a lot of the Starfleet insignia.Β

thefirstfleet In reply to slybrarian [2016-07-30 17:43:53 +0000 UTC]

I've heard they based it in the bullet in water effect.

Oh I would love this as a canon effect, a warp bow wake, would have been a perfect complement to the TMP warp blur effect...nicely done.

That is the visual representation of the warp lobe created by the nacelles in subspace. Essentially a pocket of normal space in which the ships sits, and then space moves around it to avoid time dilation.

All this geek stuff from my warp theory notes aside, the picture looks awesome.
