Description
The Polaris and the Madrid have just finished their investigation on the fallen USS Niantic, when a Romulan vessel drops out of Warp and hails them. Its commanding officer introduces himself as Field Primus Tomed of the IRW Wounded Pride. It seems that another player has joined the game in the Taurus Reach...Models by me

Is the Polaris right under the Madrid, or further back from the observer?

Good scene!
Love the TOS version of the Miranda class - perfect without slipping into modern elements - e.g. the Anton Class.....WTF

Awesome work! I use a Miranda for my ship over at Tales of the 11th Fleet and I have to say that they're awesome little ships.

Yeah, they're pretty neat! I named a ship after Andy Rooney. She [the ship, that is] has a Miranda-class body, D-7 style wings, and a set of nacelles designed around those of a Jem'Hadar Bug.

I use a Miranda class myself set in 2376 after the Dominion War. Her name is Daedalus, named for the mythological Greek inventor.

If the Romulans are being cordial without a major threat to the Alpha Quadrant being apparent, expect a poisoned knife in your back sooner or later...

you really should go for TMP or TNG or JJ designs. not that i don't like TOS, but why making science fiction artwork look like toys in a time you can make it look like pseudo-reality?
however, good work on thy miranda.

thefirstfleet In reply to Gisteron [2011-11-13 16:09:43 +0000 UTC]
You don't seem to get the design concept behind TOS: the ships are smooth without greebles and shit because every machinery is internal to prevent exposure, and weapons, airlocks and such are hidden behind retractable plates.

Gisteron In reply to thefirstfleet [2011-11-13 16:52:15 +0000 UTC]
Yes I do understand that. But I can't see the plates, I can't see their edges, I can't see where there is the size of that ship, which's hull was made by men and machines out of hundreds of handy single plates. Come on, put a rectangularly patterned specularity value map on it, put some plate edges here and there, make it look like it is huge, not like it is a toy or studio model. You won't regret, you know so, don't you?

thefirstfleet In reply to Gisteron [2011-11-13 16:56:24 +0000 UTC]
All spec mapped/riveted/plated TOS ships I have seen looked awful. It's like any attempt to make a SW TIE fighter look less like an eyeball... the result looks ridiculous.

Gisteron In reply to thefirstfleet [2011-11-13 17:33:33 +0000 UTC]
Why do you think I suggested making it more TMP or TNG style (keeping quiet about JJ, many fans don't like them)? Well, nevermind, I'm just throwing some opinion; keeping the TOS tradition is certainly a philosophy as well, and clearly it has its beauty, too. Good work.
