Description
It has been a little while since I made a new Dreaded Chessmen piece, but now that I got so spare time and newer ideas I decided to make the next member in the Digital Dreadnought army; the Dread-Knight.The Dread-Knights are considered to be the "muscle" of the Dreaded Chessmen, as they tend to fight at close range opposed from a distance thanks to their lance weapon.
Design wise for the Dread-Knights I made their appearence horse like, since the actual Knights in chess have horse heads.
As first, I was going to make them like centaurs with a horse's lower half and a man's upper half.
However I tried that in a previous attempt and it didn't turn out as well as I expected.
So I took the "easier route" and just made the Dread-Knights into robotic anthro horses.
As for why they look like unicorns, it was only because I like the way an "actual" unicorn's tail look, that and I could weaponize it into a whip.
Probably one of the more complex Dreaded Chessmen pieces.

Enemy file audio log #303:
Dread-Knights are to be considered the main ideal version of "the muscle" within the Dreaded Chessmen of the Digital Dreadnought's army.
These equine shaped bastards are most difficult to fight against with conventional means.
Like what was stated earlier the Dread-Knight's are the muscle, and it shows quite clearly with what they are capable of.
One Dread-Knight has the strength of 20 Dread-Pawns, which allows them to lift objects several thousands of pound over their heads and launch them at their foes with the greatest of ease.
However, unlike the Dread-Pawns the Dread-Knights are mainly focus on close quarters combat preferring to use their large and deadly Lancer weapon to secure their opponents.
Now we said the Dread-Knights are focused on CQC, however their Lancer has a secondary option that also extends to the rest of their bodies.
The Dread-Knight's plated armor is broken up into segments that are connected by extremely flexible fibers the can stretch and bend in anyway.
This in a sense extends their fighting range by a large margin as their Lancers become rocket propelled hook shots, dragging their foes to themself, or dragging themself to their foes.
Also, they can jump thanks to the stretchy materials in their legs, that allows them to jump miles into the air and performs devastating dive bombs into larger groups of soldiers.
Know despite the Dread-Knights surprising range , stretchy limbs, and rather effective weapon, there is a fault in the Dread-Knights as a whole.
...The Dread-Knights are very arrogant and cocky...
Yes, the Dread-Knights apparently think that they are unstoppable god sent warriors that can single handedly change the tide of a battle.
This causes issues with the other Dreaded Chessmen.
As they tend to bully and push the Dread-Pawns around, constantly disobey the orders of the Dread-Bishops, messing with the Dread-Rooks' less than stellar A.I., and even challenges the Dread-Queen and Dread-King to battle.
This doesn't end well for the Dread-Knights as they usually end up getting killed by their teammates of of anger of frustration.
They also seem to have an uhh... how do I put this... a "ghetto" attitude I think?
Either way this attitude of "I don't give a fuck" is enough to have a small group of Dread-Knights just going off on their own doing whatever, usually fighting each other and getting killed, Dreaded Chessmen who can't stand them anymore, or the wandering Peacekeeper soldiers.
As for disposing of the Dread-Knights there is one very unconventional way to harm them.
One way is to anger them for the Dread-Knights get mad at almost anything; doing this is EXTREMELY DANGEROUS but seeing how the Dread-Knights don't think, they'll usually do something stupid that'll end up with them dead.
If the Dread-Knights launch their Lancers and get the tip stuck in the ground; if one takes a sharp blade and cuts the material that connects their armor, the Dread-Knights can no longer control where they are going and will crash into the ground with violent force.
The force of the crash is more then enough to break of the stronger blue armor the Dread-Knights wear, then their armor is no stronger than a standard Dread-Pawn's armor.
Or if you are lucky, they'll just die from the crash's force.
Long ranged combat is also another go way to deal with the Dread-Knights, but the rounds need to be powerful anti-tank rounds to even pierce the armor; aiming of the white weaker armor works also.
Or if you are feeling ballsy, take a large blunt weapon and smash the Dread-Knights' armor, but that's not recommended...
Either way the Dread-Knight's can easily be despatched if you are smart about angering them and using their own power against them.
...They end up getting killed more often then the Dread-Pawns do, and that's just sad...
Perhaps if they were will to listen to orders more often they live longer.
End of audio log.

This is what I call a kick ass design but it has sense, especially after reading the Dread-Knights are supoosed to be some of the strongest units of Dreaded Cheesmen!
I really liked the armor design your pulled off as well as the colors you picked up for it, it looks like a very strong armor. I wonder if they could pick up different colors for depending of the situation they have to face in the battlefield. Other than, another well done Unit piece, Ink Heart!

I glad this design turned out as nicely as it did, this was a second take picture so I had to make sure this looked correct.
Originally I was going to make all of the Digital Dreadnoughts colored red or orange, but I decided against that because they look too plain in my opinion.

Well, I can tell you that second take was pretty worth, I really liked the concept!
And I see, that has sense to me, purple seems to be a good choice for the Dread-Knights in that case, hopefully there will be another picture with them.

The Dread-Knights are probably one of the more intimidating Dreaded Chessmen pieces out there.

pretty bad ass design once again. I'm really liking the foes more then the hero's with these designs. I was tho caught off gaurd by one bit of info on them knowing your past with the attitude. the whole "i don't give a fuck" thing. I recall you hating otto for that BS attitude

Sometimes it's best base your villians off of awful past experiences, not to mention give them traits you absolutely hate in people.
Other then that, I always found it rather amusing to have a seemingly higher ranked goon to be stronger than the grunts yes, but not nearly as competent then they like to think they are.
The Dread-Knight's greatest weakness is themseleves unfortunately.
Also, I'm glad you are liking the Dreaded Chessmen set, I having quite a bit of fun designing these guys.

seeing as they are villains I could see that, give you someone to hate. as for having the higher ranked stronger but dumber it's a good idea for a body guard. you don't need a highly intelligent guard when you're about to be crushed. plus it adds comedy to us reading hehe.

The Dread-Knight is one of the installments of the Dreaded Chessmen.
They are the villains in my original series called Unit.
There is a whole folder about the characters in Unit, with some background info on all of the characters.
I'll be drawing the Dread-Rook, Dread-Queen, and Dread-King sometime soon.

Interesting. I wonder if it ever occurred to the Digitial Dreadnoughts to produce a Knight's body with no AI, that was controlled from the outside. More hackable, yes, but capable of producing more reliable results. Plus, even the hacking vulnerability would be made almost a non-issue when paired with a Bishop.
It seems that the D.D. (do you mind the use of abbreviation?) suffer from a lack of deployable manpower, and also an aversion to making 2.0 versions of their software.
Unless the Dreaded Chessmen were only an elaborate field test for something to come later? Or have the results so far been good enough to make investment into their improvement seem a redundant expense?
Either way, its room for the villains to grow smarter, which is not a bad thing. You don't want to make things impossible for the good guys at the beginning, or too easy at the end.

For the Digital Dreadnoughts, I imagen that the Dreaded Chessmen are a fairly new project that they had developed.
The D.D. also does have an issue with deployable manpower and has to rely on as they don't have many flesh and blood allies within their ranks.
The only people that work for the D.D. (human or aniloid alike) are probably just the scientist and mechanics.
With the amount of trouble and issues the Dreaded Chessmen have caused the Peacekeepers I think it's safe to stay they are pleased with the results, and realized that problems with the A.I. need to be fixed or tweak to make more reliable soldiers.
I'm sure a 2.0 or updated version of the Dreaded Chessmen are going to be made to constructed once all of the kinks and bugs are fixed and perhaps the D.D. can get their hands on some stronger materials other than recyclable and/or broken parts.
I'll just say the field test worked.
