I never thought my mom was capable of anything like this. She was always so sweet and kind, the perfect suburban mom. But then I found out about the ritual.
It started a few months ago. I came home from school one day and found my mom in the basement, chanting and dancing around a circle of candles. I was scared and confused, and I didn't know what to do. I just stood there and watched her.
After a while, she stopped chanting and looked at me. "Don't be afraid," she said. "This is just a ritual. It's nothing to worry about."
I didn't believe her. I knew there was something more going on. But I didn't want to argue with her, so I just went upstairs and tried to forget about it.
But I couldn't forget. I kept thinking about the ritual, and what it could mean. I started to do some research, and I learned about all sorts of dark and disturbing rituals. I was starting to get scared.
One night, I woke up in the middle of the night and heard my mom chanting again. I got out of bed and went downstairs. She was in the basement, just like before. But this time, she wasn't alone. There was a man with her.
I couldn't see his face, but I could tell he was tall and muscular. He was wearing a black cloak, and he had a strange symbol tattooed on his forehead.
My mom saw me and smiled. "Come join us," she said. "We're almost finished."
I was terrified, but I couldn't move. I just stood there and watched as they continued the ritual.
After a few minutes, the man stopped chanting and turned to me. "This is your mother's new path," he said. "She has chosen to join us."
I didn't know what to say. I just stared at him in shock.
"Don't worry," he said. "You'll understand soon enough."
And then he turned and walked away.
I ran upstairs and locked myself in my room. I didn't know what to do. I didn't know who to turn to. I was all alone.
I lay in bed, staring at the ceiling, and I thought about what I had seen. I didn't know what it meant, but I knew it was something dark and dangerous.
I didn't sleep that night. I just lay there, listening to the sound of my mom's chanting coming from the basement.
The next morning, I went downstairs and found my mom sitting at the kitchen table. She was pale and tired, but she smiled when she saw me.
"Good morning, honey," she said. "Did you sleep well?"
I shook my head. "No," I said. "I couldn't sleep."
"Oh," she said. "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to keep you up."
"It's not your fault," I said. "I just couldn't stop thinking about what I saw last night."
She nodded. "I know," she said. "It's a lot to take in."
"Can you tell me what's going on?" I asked.
She sighed. "I'm not sure how to explain it," she said. "But I've been involved in a... a group, for a while now. They're helping me to find my true self."
"What do you mean?" I asked.
"I mean, they're helping me to become the person I was meant to be," she said. "They're helping me to unleash my full potential."
I didn't know what to say. I didn't understand what she was talking about.
"I know it's hard to understand," she said. "But you'll see. In time, you'll understand everything."
And then she smiled and hugged me.
I didn't know what to do. I didn't know what to believe. But I knew that I couldn't stay here. I had to get away.
I packed my bags and left that night. I didn't know where I was going, but I knew I couldn't stay in that house any longer.
I've been living on the run ever since. I'
