Description
so I'm not sure if I'm going to use this for my poster, I think I want something edgier.... I dont knowThe colors are WAY better in person, the yellow gets lost in this image.
my scanner broke, so this is photos pieced together. It looks funny to me, scans just look so much better. so I'm sorry it looks a little blurry. Man, I miss my scanner
By the way I just saw The Dear Hunter and Lydia last night
they both were great, it's definitely worth a listen to.

love the skin tones. the subtle greens and purples are nice.
Definitely like her expression and the colour you chose for her hair.

Hey there lil' Bambi, another sweet sexy.
I agree, I;m noticing the skin tones a little more since you posted your 'how to draw in ten easy and alcohol soaked steps.'
What color the dress chief? If you're going to be using it as promo, I'd go very bold; red on a black background perhaps? Dunno, maybe the solution is to go edgier with the composition; although she's sexily rendered, she's not picking out a lot of really feminine curves in her angle and posture. Maybe a rear view with the head turned back might be a bit more 'hello sailor'.
Get a bit more punch in those lips too
I'm just dribbling now, so I'll shut up.
Good luck with it.
PS I figured out what's going wrong with my drawings: not enough sexy naked women seem to be strolling through my house... bugger that!

hey, Lydia are awesome! They rock my socks.
I'm a total fan of your art, my aim is to one day be as good as you, I prolly won't do half naked women (not saying I don't like that, I think you're pictures are really hot) but I want to be able to do realistic portraits.
Feel free to check out my gallery, I'm obviously no where as good or experianced as you, but I hope I'll get there.. like 10 years from now.

dont be afraid to use alot of color

Yes, I know what you mean and thank you so much for your compliment.
What I need is to start using watercolor or some other element that will give me more freedom. What I use now is color pencils and I sort of feel like I've pushed that to the limit, it's really hard to get good texture. But who knows, I mean I keep developing every time I draw, I've never been able to do hair like I did on my last portrait. So there's really always new ground to explore. I'll keep watching you to get that extra inspiration tho. And it would be really helpful if you drop me a tip or two when you got time. No pressure.

colored pencil is what i use as well, there is so much you can do with them, I get such a rich amount of color with them
dont be affraid to lose the texture of the paper and bleding stumps are your friend
π: 0 β©: 1
xjanniex In reply to theirison [2008-08-12 14:01:38 +0000 UTC]
yeah, I'll have to get me some stumps then. Now I use white pencils that I really press down hard to mix it all up... but that way I always lose some of the color even if it isn't that much.
π: 0 β©: 1
theirison In reply to xjanniex [2008-08-12 16:36:11 +0000 UTC]
you it in reverse, put the white down first then staert layering color on top of the white, make shure you rub the white into the paper with a paper towl
do it until the surface is covered in wax, then the colors will go on really smooth and you wont lose the intensity of the color
look at the 3 long skinny images i just posted not to long ago
I show you how to do what I'm talking about

ooooh, well you learn something new everyday I guess.
I'm definitaly doing that next time.
Being self tought as I am I never know if I'm doing something the right way or not, it just either works or it doesn't. Thanks a lot for the tip!
And the pictures were really helpful too, something that you do that I don't do it the same sense tho is the outlining. It gives your pictures a very unique look. I really like it, but I'm out of black anyway.. haha, I need to buy new pencils, the ones I use now are actually aquarelle (spell?) pencils, but I hardly ever use water on them, cuz I'm too lazy.. but I should get pencils for portrait stuff. oh and stumps! woot woot!
thanks again.

hmmm it's a tough choice. Neil does have a point that it is a rather elegant piece. But I'm with your urge to go edgier. She's a beautiful life rendition (my god her hands are particularly amazing), but it's just not as eyecatching and punch me in the face sexy as your other stuff. It IS good to surprise an audience, but I think for a poster you initially want something that's going to make a viewer curious about your show's concept so that they'll want to come and learn more about it.
I can see something playing a little with perspective for a poster of yours, like a woman bending forward towards the 'camera' and flicking her fingers at the viewer telling them to "come hither". Something like this maybe? [link]
Or maybe this? [link]
I'm sure you will think of something. You have the power of the cute dog on your side!

I think it would make a cool poster. There's lots of room for text on the the side. You also said you wanted to get away from being known as the guy who paints chicks with tattoos. This piece is real elegant. Using it as your poster may draw in new fans. Then they'll be shocked by your other "edgy" pieces at the shows. People who know you will know what to expect, but get to see a diferent side of your art.

That is an awesome rep to have.
Seriously though; Neil113 does make some valid points.
This piece does give fans a different flavour.
