Description
As the stars are known to the Night; As the stars that shall be bright when we are dust,
Moving in marches upon the heavenly plain,
As the stars that are starry in the time of our darkness,
To the end, to the end, they remain.
- Laurence Robert Binyon (For the Fallen)
---
The depressed things I do at 1 in the morning.
My feet are still numb from standing in the cold, wet grass with just my socks on.
I have to go to work in 5 hours.
Damn.

wow
very cool, i tried to do one like this at a lake in NY, and i thought it was amazing, but
you totally just blew it all away with this excellent shot
is it really f3.5, 15 seconds at 1000ISO? ...10mm? jeesus..
you have some real equipment with that 30D, my little XT is like a toy, i didnt even have a tripod i had to balance it on a chair
mine was... an ISO cranked to 1600 for 30 seconds at like... an f2.8 on a 15mm fisheye aaand you still got way more light out of it.
beautiful.
..did you use a flash perchance? cause that tree looks like daylight, before i saw the stars i was wondering why the sky was so dark
anyway, if you care to feel eeeeven better about your work, heres my subpar piece to compare it to, [link]
sorry to hear about the job 5 hours later and the wet feet and im also sorry for the ridiculous essay i wrote, i could not help myself

I love when I get long, thoughtful comments, lol.
One of the main differences between the 30D and XT/XTi are how well they function at various ISOs. The XT, operating at 1600 is about the same as a 30D operating at 800. The 30D is far more sensitive. And yes, I had a tripod, ha. I had to do some serious tweaking to get the composition right though.
I try not to use the flash in my photos, and this was no exception. The glow that you see on the tree was the faint glow from the house behind me. This was taken in my backyard. The next time we have a full moon and a semi-clear night I'm going out to a local lake to take some shots at night. I'm excited.
I really love you piece, especially for not having a tripod! I commend you. The sheer number of stars you captured is amazing.

well im glad you think so! i tend to get carried away sometimes and its nice to be appreciated while simultaneously not annoying peole.
well lucky you and your sensitive 30D haha if i had the money id probably shell it out, although usually the lightings good whenever i shoot
but yeah i think thats the only redeemable quality, the lake is so far out in the middle of nowhere that the sky goes on for ever
i noticed you faved the other one from that set, i wasnt sure which one i liked better, the color in the east was nice but the focus isnt as sharp and i think i liked the west's composition better. but thank you very much
im glad you didnt hafta use a flash, you probably wouldnt have gotten those great fall colors, im sure the yellowish tint that the light gave off helped out, but yeah this shot and everything, the lighting is excellent
thanks for the +friend as well, ill hafta do the same so i can catch these lake shots you take and figure out how theyre really suposta look. good luck!

I wish more people put so much thought into their comments.
Have you played with the 40D at all? It's a beautiful piece of equipment. I've tried to stay away from it.. because I'm just going to want it. I only just bought my 30D a year ago, and after just buying a Mac I can't afford to go and upgrade, ha!
I have a hard time picking between different pictures too. I always end up uploading a couple as well.
And yeah, the yellow glow definitely helped. Originally I didn't even want to get the tree in there, but by accident I did and decided I really liked it, so I played around with it a lot more.

ahh! i just got a mac, and im soo glad i did
lol but i got a glossy screen, because even though it makes the screen look way different than the final print, i never print stuff out anyway, aand i thought it was way too vibrant to pass up
haha cameras and computers are so ridiculous, its like you pay a ton to get the top of the line, then a month later they raise the bar again, and the model you have drops down like 100, 200 bucks and loses all its value anyway. i got the XT like probably the day before the XTi came out, i probably could have got it even cheaper.
but yeah thats usually how most of my good shots turn out. byyy accident

Oooh a Mac user! I've been completely converted, lol. After many, many bad experiences with PCs.. I mean, it was kind of hard getting used to a Mac.. You know.. Not having to wait for 10 minutes for it to start up, no blue screen of death.. but I've managed.
I actually sold my very first print last week. I made $7.61, lol. I feel so legitimate now.. ha!
Technology's insane like that. Nothing depreciates faster. But my 30D has been totally worth it. It's like my child. It's with my everywhere and I spend way too much money on it, lol.
I'm going out to take some photos now (not sure if I'll get anything worth it) but I'm sure I'll talk to you later. I actually added you to my AIM, so feel free to message me. (Darth x Jader) You seem interesting and intelligent, a rare combination, lol!

i know just what you mean, i had a dell which was soo messed up
then an hp, which still works simply because i refused to even allow it to connect with the internet...
but yeah, after like maybe a day tops of figuring out the operating system, its so worth it
woa! very cool, ive wanted to start doing that, but i didnt want to buy a subscription and i feel weird just clicking the make print button cause i feel like itd be a even smaller royalty whatever, and id give up more rights for less, who knows
haha interesting and intelligent? well thank you muches! id hafta say the same to you
i shall add you as well, and im glad your going out, because i am going to bed, its already 1am way out in virginia and i g2 get up for my 8oclock i got sucked into cause of stupid full classes

There was a little bit of glow from the house behind me (that's in my backyard), but mostly long exposure. 15 seconds I think.
