Description Here's a few SDCC sketches I did last week. Enjoy!

Link/Zelda-- I must have done half a dozen Link and/or Zelda sketches. They were easily the most popular choice that week.

Agreed, though it's tough getting ANY line weight on the textured cardstock.

First off, I like that you did it on cardboard. XD When done well, stuff on cardboard can look very awesome...and this is done really well! I like how the different colored surface lets the blacks and whites stand out and feel more intense than when they're on the usual white paper we're all used, too. And even more, the more subtle shading on this keeps the intense whites and blacks unified with the pic as a whole. If it was just unshaded lineart with the blacks and whites, they would be too stark and stand out too much. This way they stand out and create points of interest on the characters (love how it works with the eyes, and Zelda's collar) but provides a step in between the neutral ground and the intense whites and blacks.

Plus the shading adds lots of depth and detail. Especially on Zelda's hair ornament and Link's gap. And their faces. AND EVERYTHING.

I love the faces. Especially Zelda. I loves me some Link to the Past, Link's Awakening and Ocarina of Time, but Zelda as a character design has never been the most appealing and attractive to me. But I really like what you've done with her here. There's a lot of life and personality on her face, in the eyes, the expression. I like how you drew her nose. I like how it's a little bit different from your usual style; just a little, but still very recognizable as yours. I dunno what it is about it, but there's something mysterious, strong and alluring about her expression. What is she so focused on? Again, I think the intense whites of the eyes help convey that emotion.

I like Link, too. I like how you gave him a somewhat more manly appearance than we sometimes/usually see him with, but still maintaining the sense of elfly, Hylian whimsy. The stronger edges on the features, and the longer, angular chin and nose and the features as a whole give him what I would perceive as an idealized, manly physique for an elfy kinda guy. Not big and bulky like a pro-wrassler or something, but not a childlike or feminine look. I like that it's a different, but convincing take on him, and he too has a serious, focused, expression that is awesome.

I love the details on their outfits. I like how you gave link a mail undershirt. I like his hat, I like her hair ornament.

Link's ear looks cool. But also really big. I can't decide if I really like how that looks, or if I'm kinda iffy.

I really, really like this. Awesome.

It's not cardboard at all, actually-- it's a textured construction paper/cardstock. It creates a great effect, and also allows me to ink looser than I normally would on slick paper. I love the results.

And yeah, I agree-- that ear ended up pretty big.

Oh, I see! Still, I really like the effect of drawing on a colored, more textured surface. I should try it out sometime.
