Well I'm a complete beginner and own a D3100, and I never hear of what you said lol. After a few researches now I know, and for the small prices, I think that I'll give it a shot ! lol.

PS : don't know if the Nikkor 50 1.8 will add that much, personnally I'm planning on a Sigma 70-300mm f/4-5.6 DG OS, so good for portraits and macros on a DX ! I 've read a few blogs reviewing prime lenses with big apertures VS zooms with standard apertures, and the fact that the last ones can be very useful for wide animals while giving great bokehs for portraits...I completely gave up 50mm !
