Description
I gave myself a project to do over the summer to stop myself going crazy in those hours where I can't do something more productive. And considering my first mask was such a success, I thought I'd do a second.I found lots of pictures from the internet of venetian masks, and took ideas from several to create one with a Victorian style. Note the off-white creams and the dirtied corners, to make it seem aged. As if it was once a stunning pearl white gem, but now it's seen a few years - if kept in good condition. I also chose burgundy, as it's often noted as one of the royal colours, and suggests a rich history, embellished with pearl beads
As my friends will tell you, I take pictures at every available moment. Mostly as a record for myself (I have a pretty poor memory) but partly because natural photos can capture the essence of how we were feeling at the time, which is something much more difficult to remember. Manerisms, quirks, facial expressions - all tells on how wonderful life can be.
*woo, sorry, bit sentimental there...*
My point was that I also like taking pictures of progression, so I collated the photos of the main stages, so I can remember in the future the effort that went into every detail. I only wish I'd done the same for my first mask...
Anyway, I hope you all enjoy my craftsmanship, I certainly enjoyed making it!
Love to you all xxx

I've been racking my brains on how to make one of these masks. Where did you get the base for the mask? It's rather lovely.

hello ther friend! X)
I got the mask from a reali fabby arts and crafts store in the UK called Hobbycraft. They have a great selection of papermache bits and bobs.
I wud guess if u cudnt get hold of a readymade papermache mask, u cud make one - either by eye or over a plastic / metal one. The beauty of papermache is that as long as its tightly made u can cut and trim it with a craftknife to suit ur needs, like i did with the eyes and nose. just make sure u seal it after.
hope that helps!

Awwwwww. Thank you honey. ^.^ Maybe i should. I'll make masks, furniture, wooden toys, and save the Candian wildlife in my spare time!!
The materials arnt very expensive. I tend to buy pretty much everything from Hobbycraft lol, which makes them cost a little more, but then everything is prepared and i dont have to wait for a certain piece.
Its the labour thats expensive as it were. I spent 8 hours a day for 4 days on the first mask, and longer on this one. Mostly because I ended up waiting for it to dry lol

the music notation was printed on a sheet of paper. again, another purchase from Hobbycraft. it was just clever cutting and sticking lol!
yes, furniture. i enjoy woodwork and would like very much to make a set of table and chairs from scratch. turn the table legs, shape the chair backs. sew cushion covers too. you get the idea.
you see i might not be a great painter, but i'm a fair all-rounder. i like working with different materials. it relaxes me.
