I think you should change the effect on his hands. Instead of "power bubbles", I think it should be "power ripples/waves".

I was thinknig about that, but i figured it'd come across as heat waves.... Energy signatures and capes are two superhero type things that i think I need practice with.....

Spheres of energy would be accurate. Look at the intro of the 90s X-Men cartoon for example.

You know what they say about guys with big hands!
That's right, they wear big gloves. What were you thinking, perv?
So I think that in general, you may want to start drawing longer and slightly more slender legs--the characters you draw would look more graceful and attractive.
Because of how you drew the eyebrows, they look almost like ridges--add funky ears and he could be a Star Trek alien. ;D. It might look better after you color it, I don't know.
The angle of his right hand looks off, and there's something weird about how it's connecting to the forearm, but I can't place the problem. =/ His left arm also looks odd--what's that giant bump on the outside of his upper arm?
Last critique--I have no idea what's going on with his cape. It looks like random pieces of cloth flying around. Is it just incredibly long and flowing out, then curving down and back in toward his body, and then flowing out to his left? >.<
Oh, and I agree with FireTrapster, Sentinel debris in the background would be cool.
OK, OK, one last thing! I may be wrong because I don't read comics, but I don't think that the black dot effect is used for Magneto--I think he usually has spheres of energy. I see the dots used for cosmic-type powers, like Galactus, I think they're also used for Sunspot. I don't know how to describe the type of characters I see it used for, but I don't think I've seen it used for Magneto. Again, I don't read comics, so they very well may use that effect in the comics.

I am definitely trying to draw longer, more slender legs.... I have a habit of drawing really bulky muscular legs..... I definitely gotta agree with you on that.
With a lot of my drawings I use myself as reference since I don't have any other models, so the line above his eyebrows are suppose to show him scowling, but it's just not being pulled off correctly.... I may just erase that when I color this..... Whatever bump you're talknig about on his arm, i don't see what you mean..... it goes from shoulder to tricep/bicep, and then I don't see what else you may be talking about.... there is an area of the arm that connects from the outer forearm to the upper arm, and i tend to over exaggerate that muscle (don't know the name) but if you observe the end of the tricep and that outer muscle of the forearm (the front part) they kind of connect..... so thats what i think you may be referring to..... With the cape, you called it right, it's one flowing piece of material.... not the best drawn cape, but my best to date lol I don't think I'll be drawing capes this long ever again, but it was more used for design purposes..... with the energy effects, you're right, but I figure I've never seen an energy effect in my life (who has hehehe) so this is what I envision until I can figure a better way to draw the energy signatre he'd wield and make it come across accurately..... thanks for taking the time to critique and comment, it is definitely appreciated=]

You're lucky if you can use yourself as reference. I could only use myself as reference if I wanted to draw a flabby guy with no visible muscle definition. >.<
I didn't mean the lines above his brow (which I didn't even notice), I meant the way you drew his actual eyebrows, with those vertical lines.
As for the bump: [link]
For a more 'accurate' (lol, definitely not an accurate word in this context), magnetic power effect, why not reference the original X-men cartoon, or X-Men Evolution, or Wolverine and the X-Men, or the comic books? I have some possible ideas for a neat effect. Maybe I'll work on it and show you my result.

oh, the eye brow lines are just indications that there will be textures in the brows as opposed to flat colors for eyebrows..... and that bum is the tricep..... seeing those cartoons may help get a new way to do the effect... thanks for the suggestion=]

If that's a tricep... it's weird... The back of the arm is fairly flat, the tricep makes a upside-down V on the arm, and then there's actually a slight dip and a pretty straight line to the elbow. I can't make heads or tails of what you drew...

when developed most muscles are rarely flat. Even triceps have curves to them, especially from a side angle. Just out of curiosity, where are you getting that info from?

Love the dotting affect. If he's levitating though, I'd suggest you make his legs closer together.

hmmmmm, maybe. have you ever floated in a pool of water? Rarely are legs together in that type of situation, BUT I may try altering it, it might bring something to this image.... .thanks for the suggestion=]

Masteronin In reply to thelearningcurv [2009-05-03 01:14:41 +0000 UTC]
It's just most images of him levitating have his legs closed.
Plus, floating with magnetic powers is probably different from floating in a pool.

As much as I do the typical comic stuff, I am trying to do some things a bit different when i do them..... And are you sure that all floating isn't the same?

Might I suggest adding Sentinel debris falling through the air?
Cool drawing of the Master of Magnetism.
