Description
This is very much a work in progress, with most of the swan's body still existing only in my mind.First significant work I've begun in *years*, so I expect there to be problems. Specifically, with this one, I see a muddy texture, created by uneven application of graphite and stomp. I also see a problem with balance between darkest and lightest, and a serious problem with the outlines being just too dark. Even with careful shading and blending, some of these still dominate by pulling my eye unfavourably.
Any comments, critiques gladly welcomed - don't be shy, I know it's a WIP.

its sort of hard for me to picture a swan, i dont know, maybe its me
im not used to looking at drawings that are this abstract in nature, not that being abstract is abd thing.
i would go into critiquing but im not much of a hand drawer

It's only the body part anyway. When I get the rest of it added on, it will look much more like a swan, albeit a fairly abstract swan. Still needs wings, feet, neck, head, & maybe some context.
Thanks for stopping by.

I honestly don't know how to crit this type of art. I havn't been exposed to it enough to know good from bad? It seemed fine to me until I read your description. Keep at it my friend. I'm sure when your done it will be a masterwork!

Thanks for the encouragement - it definitely helps. And as for critiquing, much of the same rules will always apply. For example, the amount of negative space vs. positive space, quality of linework or shading, etc. Some of it, admittedly would be obscure - corners of nested ovoids should mirror each other, or develop from each other so a relationship between them is clear, relationship of size of "eye" ovoid to size of larger "head" ovoid - that should roughly follow the Golden Mean, I think.
And will keep at it. I'll have most of April to work at it plus more bubbling in my mind. May and June - still hoping I'll get this time to work at it also.
Thanks!
Russ
