Thanks indeed. This is a clip from a much larger piece (could not fit it all on the scanner). Pencil. Got some more on the go, though it is slow right now.

This is a splendid totem! I look forward to roaming your poetry gallery. I'm no poet myself, but my sister is, so I marvel at the precision and creativity of it.

I know it's nothing very special where I live, but my great grandmother was Cherokee. I thought she was beautiful. She had very fierce eyes.

Why thank you very much for your kind compliments! And roam at will, as I shall roam through yours and your sisters, now I have discovered you both.

I'd like to have seen your great grandmother, and I think the both of you are also very beautiful, with lovely eyes. I'll bet they can look fierce too.

Take care.

Thanks. This is a clip of a much larger piece, nearly 3 feet in diameter. It's all I could fit onto the scanner.

my computer screen cannot do this piece justice because it's too small to view it in its entirety. but from the small icon i can tell is it beautiful. is there a way i can view it smaller?

themapper In reply to LeRoue [2006-02-04 08:12:50 +0000 UTC]

I could send you a smaller version of the piece. Another way might be if you just save it from the small view to your home PC, before going to full view.

If you'd like a smaller version, just let me know. I'd very happily send you a copy any size you like.

xoxo

Thanks! I owe two copies of a new (as yet unfinished) print in the same mode to two winners of a Kiriban...

This one is part of a much larger pencil drawing too big to fit onto any kind of scanner I can find locally. Had to zero out stuff beyond the border, but hey, technology doe what it does, right?

Thank you so much for stopping by!

Ah, what were the dimensions of the original image?

And you're welcome.

themapper In reply to TheGlome [2005-05-06 09:36:43 +0000 UTC]

It is fully 3 feet (almost 1 meter) across. There's more layers to its structure ... It's meant to be in all, a wooden shield design (ceremonial) ... Thanks for your interest in this pic. I'm doing more soon (this month) in this mode ...

Ah, wow. Must have taken a lot of work. And it shows!

My pleasure. I'll put you on my watch.

themapper In reply to TheGlome [2005-05-08 01:06:14 +0000 UTC]

Yes, it did! Although this piece is cropped to about 1/4 of the full piece, which took around 90 hours total. Thanks for the watch and the comments! I plan to domore in this genre this spring and summer.

Let me help fatten up that favorites number. Great work on this. I love the design and the care you took in building the details and shading. Just beautiful.

O hey, wow, thanks! I greatly appreciate that. This is actually a small bit of a much larger works that was way too large to scan. I had to crop a scan down to this in order for it to work.

Thanks for stopping by. I hope to have more of this genre out soon.

Thanks! 'Preciate your stopping by to have a look. I'd originally had you in my DevWatch lists, but lost everything in one night of clumsiness (new to DA). And glad I have re-discovered you and your work. I'll be back to visit your gallery again in the days to come.

Best,

Thanks for the fave . And thanks for the questions too. The birds are actually Grouse, since that's my House crest. The largest one *is* my mother, the two are my sisters, and the upside-down one represents their kids. We are a matrilineal people, taking our names, our territories, our histories, all from our mother's side.

Pleased you had a look at it - this is one part of the much larger whole, which was too big to scan.

Ah. Figured I'd err on the side of guessing the grandest bird first. Now that I understand it better, my fave can be solidified all the more!

mister-underhill [2005-02-11 06:37:11 +0000 UTC]

Wow. Amazing. The face of the greater eagle would be your mother then, with the two smaller eagles your sisters? (Are you the upside-down eagle/beak?) And the kids are "all over the place" as kids will be. And then back to seeing everything as part of the greater eagle/mother. I wish I had more background in Gitksan art to understand this fully. But I'll still give it a fave, I will.
