I did this piece over 20 years ago and at the time i thought maybe i should shellac it or something to preserve it. I was afraid to do anything, thinking it would smudge the ink, so i just left it. As you can see it has stayed quite nice - and as you pointed out, blends in so nicely with the wood grain.
