Description
The hunter sat, watching the sunset. Today had not been eventful. The coming of winter had sent all prey into hibernation, and so far the only enjoyment of the day had been the sunset. But what a sunset it was. The deep red and yellow hues of the western sky clashed with the blues and cyans of the east to bring tinges of purple to the clouds above. The day had gone without a single hit, but this sight alone made the trek worth while. Out here, there was no noise but that of the wind. There was no beeping electronics, no clang of steel, no ticking robot motors, nor the whir of cooling fans, not even the whispered growl of a HDD. There was however, the occasional seagull-like screech.
With a screech and the crashing of a small-ish wave, the Latias skimmed the surface of the lake and took off in to the air, wings out and fins fighting to stay aerodynamically stable as she soared, rolled, and dived down the hill and then back up, arcing in a display past the sun. With no chance to attack earlier in the day, she had a lot of spare energy to burn, and was burning it by expressing her frustration of having nothing to eat.
With a sigh, the hunter relaxed himself and stared off into the night, wondering what it would bring.

Funny thing is, I actually DID spend a lot of time before making this, sitting on that same rock, trying to figure out how the water would react, and how different birds would go near it. I based Latias' wings and fins here on that of a magpie during take-off. I'd have gone for a kingfisher because of the similar shape, but they go too quick and are too small for me to have time to see that exact instant I was looking for. As for the water, I'll be honest, I gave up after trying manually five times and then running god-knows how many simulations. Water DOES behave like you see here, but it's difficult to render it right because that simulates an exact point in time, whereas our eyes and cameras always see a sharper, but more delayed version. End result: this looks quite bulbous for water, more like oil if anything.

Composed of 5 images taken with a mixture of the Fujifilm HS10 and the Samsung Galaxy S5. The HDR features on both suprised me, but once the lake got within shot it messed about too much, hence the need for multiple images. That, and I wouldn't fit in shot. Latias and the splashing effect computed in Blender, then edited in with GIMP 2.
