awesome! I know how hard it is to deal with contrast on scratchboard, cause you can't easily darken something once you've scratched it. But you solved the problem gracefully with perpendicular, and un-parallel lines. sweet.

Bravo on the scratchboarding!! Are you in any galleries or have a site I can check out? I would have to say that from the scratchboard artists I have been able to find on the internet you would have to be in the top 3. Once again bravo!!!

its not an engraving. its no way shape or form a type of printmaking. scratchboard(at least the kind i use) is a bored coated with about a millimeter of white kaolin clay, which is then covered with a thin even layer of india ink. you scratch the ink off of the parts you want to be white

Thankyou ! one question.. what is the each plane? And this really is what I do all the time, it's my concentration for AP studio art so for a while pretty much everything is scratchboards. But I will try your suggestion if you explain what you meant by each plane

lol its an optical illusion. too much variation between black and white in too small a space(such as closely spaced lines) creates the opticall illusion of color, one of the only problems with my kind of work lol . But no I rarely use inks on scratchboards for school. or at least not for my concentration for ap studio, because its in the concentration statement that they will all be black and white. if it does have color the whole thing will have color

I honestly don't have time. I have to spit out one of these scratchboards a week. and they take forever lol. Im two weeks behind because it takes me exactly a week to do them, and there have been two weeks of class that I've had to use my class time for something else, like this week was getting ready for my ghp audition tomorrow and there was another week that was applying for scholastic art and writing awards... it sucks, i need to do some small ones sometime soon...:sigh: I just never hve the time to go get the small boards. Time is evil... it needs to go away. Add in my babies(see [link] , my photog site) and there is no time on the face of the earth to do anything but school and kids and scratchboards:sigh: lovely teenage mothering...

thankyou! its quite an honor, but scratchboard is not pencil work just so you know. its more inside the etching category, although its not really an etching because you don't make a print from it. Honestly its all on its own But Im quite honoured that you like it so much!
