Triumph of Our Lady of the Snows

I was commissioned by a client to make an image of Our Lady of the Snows to commemorate the spiritual progress he made during Advent 2019. For this image, he specifically asked that Mary be dressed in a white dress with a blue mantle, holding the Christ Child in her arms, and holding an untied white ribbon (a connection to her title as Our Lady Undoer of Knots). The Sacred and Merciful Heart of Jesus is visible over His breast and the rays of Divine Mercy shed their light on the untangled ribbon. Jesus' right Hand is extended and blessing the viewer as a flurry of snowflakes floats down. Mary's Immaculate Heart is also visible. The client also asked that in addition to her halo with the twelve stars, she would also be crowned with an Advent Wreath with all five candle aflame. Her right foot shatters an ice puddle out of which emerges two roses: one red the other white. Her left foot crushes pink flowers and a small thorny shrub (symbolizing different struggles). Behind the Virgin and Child are four snow-covered pine trees and a snow-covered shrub, which are also symbolic of the client's spiritual life.

Our Lady of the Snows,
Immaculate Queen of the Universe,
you have bestowed so many countless graces
and pledges of love
upon the hearts and souls of millions.
O Mother, deign to shower forth
the graces of your Immaculate Heart
upon the Church of your Son,
and grant us the graces of a childlike love
and unwavering fidelity to the Most Holy Trinity. Amen.
