Dark. Cold. Lonely. I had been in this cell for a long time now. I was put in here when I misbehaved. Mr. Giovanni usually kept me in a nice bedroom but he put me here when I was bad. This was the life I got used to for fifteen years. He kidnapped me when I was five years old, right after he killed my parents.

This cell wasn’t too bad. It had a bed and a small window. Who am I kidding, I hated it. I hated it with every fiber of my being. I would look out the window and I’d look outside. I was happy for this window. I got to see these things. Creatures. That I’d never seen before.

Then I heard a bang. Someone was coming in soon. I sat down on the bed and then waited. One of the grunts came in and had a man with them. They threw him on the bed and then left. Locking him in the cell next to me.

I went over to the bars separating up. “Are you alright? Sir?” I asked. He moved a little and his hat fell off. He had raven colored hair. Soon the grunt came back to toss in a creature in with him. Then they left again. The creature was small and yellow. It had brown stripes on it’s back up only two. It had red pouches on it’s cheeks.

I backed away slowly and sat on the bed. The bars kept my safe from it but what about that man? Would he be alright? “Pika?” it said tilting it’s head.

I screamed in terror and then the man woke up. I held my pillow. “I-It talked.”

He sat up and rubbed his head. He looked over to that small creature and he had the most beautiful red eyes. I’ve never seen anyone with red eyes before. “Huh? Where are we, Pika?”

“You’re at Mr. Giovanni’s cells,” I said. He darted his head to me.

“Who are you?” he asked.

“I’m (Name),” I said. “W-What about you?”

“Red,” he said.

“Shouldn’t you be worried about that?” I asked pointing to that creature.

“Pika?” he asked. “He’s my pokémon and best friend.”

“Pokémon? What’s a pokémon? Are those, those weird creatures outside?” I asked.

He looked at me like I was stupid. “You don’t know what pokémon are? Yeah right. Quit joking,” he said.

“I’ve been in this building for fifteen years. When I’m in this cell is the only time I can see those creatures,” I said. “All I see are grunts and they are human. Well and Mr. Giovanni but I don’t like when I have to see him.”

“Holy . . . how old are you? Wait how do I know you’re not lying?” he asked.

“I have no reason to lie to you. You’re actually a nice guy most people just hit me or yell at me,” I said. “And I’m twenty years old.”

“I’ll ask you some questions and answer them honestly. Got me?” he asked and I nodded. “Alright what is this?” he asked holding the creature.

“Um, I don’t know but it’s kind of cute,” I said.

“It’s a Pikachu. A pokémon,” he said. “Alright how about this?” He held up a red computer thing.

“A computer but they are bigger,” I said.

“A pokédex,” he said. “Come here.” I went over to him and he gave me the pokédex. “Click it open and point it to Pika.”

I did as he said and the pokédex started talking. A picture of Pikachu popped up and it said, “Pikachu, the mouse pokémon, the evolved form of Pichu. Pikachu can help other Pikachu who are feeling week by sharing it’s electric current.”

“It can produce electricity?” I asked.

“Yeah. Though none of Pika’s attacks will work on these cells Giovanni has all of them electric proof and no pokémon attack works on them it just absorbs the attack,” Red said. Pika reached out to me and I freaked out. It cried sadly. “Pika won’t hurt you.”

I sat down and then reached my hand out to it. He cuddled my hand. “He’s so soft,” I said with a smile. “I think I like pokémon. Are they all this nice?”

“Some are, others not so much but all my team is. I have a Blastoise, Charizard, Venusaur, Snorlax, Lapras, and Pika,” he said.

He then told me about how kids start out on journeys when they are ten. They went to the professors that gave them five pokéballs, a pokédex and a starter pokémon. Pokéballs were things you used to catch pokémon. He had one and it was a sphere that was red on top and white at bottom.

Then trainers went on a journey to get these things called badges. They were at gyms and they challenged the gym leader. If they won they got a badge. Once having eight they could go challenge the elite four and the champion. Red had done this and got a title of the highest standing, pokémon master. His best friend, Green, was a gym leader in Viridian City.

Then he went on telling me about his friends. His best friend was Green. He had brunette hair and green eyes. He was a hard worker and pretty cocky. He thought that every girl wanted to date him. Then Red tried to explain dating but I told him I already knew what that meant. I read books on them. Green was one of the grandsons of Professor Oak. Kanto’s professor. The other one’s name was Gary and the granddaughter was named Daisy. His parents, like Red’s dad, were killed during the war.

Red said he had two brothers, Fire and Ash, and a mother. Fire was his twin and looked exactly like him but his hair was brown not black. Personality Fire was more outgoing and laughed a lot. Ash was naïve and acted like a kid but then could be completely serious when he needed to be. They way he talked about them was so sweet. You could tell he loved them.

Then he asked about my family. I told him I remembered having a brother. He was five years older than me and had pink hair and pink eyes. He looked like our mom and me our dad. I had (Length and color) hair and (Color) eyes. I remembered my last name being Knight.

After that we ate and then went to sleep. Red said he had a plan for tomorrow. He said I should rest and when he escaped I’d go with him. I never even thought of a leaving this place before. I never thought of that a possibility. I got so excited to sleep wondering what the world was like. I got so excited.
