Description
The Franch are a large mammal-like species from the tidal locked planet Frodia. They have long, sinuous bodies and swim relatively slow most of the time in shallow areas. The end of their tail has a claw like structure. This claw can adjusted to create different tail fins to allow bursts of speed, sea floor swimming or lazy drifting. Said claw can also be used in defense. The species has an eye-spot like marking on its tail and will swim backwards to confuse predators.

While they breathe air, they have the ability to breathe oxygen from the water temporarily using modified offshoots of their nasal passages. These resemble flaps in front of their eyes. They have both teeth and fold-able rakers, allowing them to eat both large and small organisms alike.

Originally the planet was a lot colder then it currently is; but after a particularly close pass by a rogue planet, it gained a new moon and a large ring. Now the extreme tidal forces caused by its gargantuan moon have melted most of the glaciers that covered the planet, giving it a massive warm sea dotted by random patches of islands on the sun-ward side of the planet. While most land species went extinct, water dwelling species like the Franch survived this cataclysm.

They are extremely social with family groups of both males and females staying together in tight knit community's long after growing up. They have been observed having deep discussions over the course of many weeks. Translation software has found that these conversations involve complex philosophical discussions. They often are seen saving members of other species from predators but at the same time will harass other species. The reasoning why is not fully understood as of yet. They are currently being reviewed for candidacy into U.U., an uplift program created by the Kandorian for species unable to leave their own gravity well.
