The thirteenth child born to a mother who regularly practiced witchcraft, the Devil laid claim to Tredecim's soul. Upon seeing him, Mrs. Leeds was horrified and abandond the boy in the New Jersey Pine Barrens. As he grew, he grew to resent his mother and at the age of five he returned to take his revenge, devouring his twelve brothers and sisters. After three more years roaming the forests like a wild animal and causing hikers to myseriously "disappear", something happened; the Jersey Devil had a brush with death.

The man he chose for his next meal turned out to be an experienced mountainman and hunter. Despite Tredecim's mastery of the black arts, a lucky shot from his intended victim left him crawling through the underbrush, one wing broken, and leaving behind a trail of blood. The hunter followed him to his cave and when he found a frightened eight-year-old boy with scaley green skin, leathery wings, and boney horns writhing in pain, he took pity. Nursing the boy back to health, the hunter showed him another path, a path of virtue.

Jersey Devil took these lessons to heart and repented all his transgressions. Making peace with his past, he soon recovered and left the wilds of New Jersey, seeking to make a fresh start. Wandering the country for over a century, he retains the appearance of a strapping teenager thanks to his netherworldly origins. Despite his good intentions, however, things invariably turn out badly, usually due to his demonic appearance. Now, six months after the Brotherhood of Evil's defeat, Jersey Devil finds himself hiding out in Cardinal City, lurking in the shadows and trying to do what he can to help the innocent people in need.
