Description
Man, two scorecards in two days, I am on a roll here!Making of this scorecard was quite standard...but I must say this is the most fun I’ve had making one of these in a long time. The process was pretty fast, and I imposed a challenge on myself: see if I could make a quality scorecard in 2 days. So I poured all of today (Monday) and half of yesterday into watching the show, making the scorecard, and writing the review, so I can relax for the rest of the month and prepare myself for the next 2 scorecards. Maybe rewatch some Spongebob, catch up on new shows, prepare for the summer, etc. Also, I decided to experiment with font size changes. Most are 66 instead of 58. A small difference, but I think it looks better. Not much else to say, so…
IT’S MOTHERFUCKING REVIEWING TIME!!!

Studio Trigger? Finally, a familiar face. I remember it from the good ol’ days of Little Witch Academia. Unsurprisingly, both shows are well-praised, but I hate to say I find both of them to be around the same quality of being decent.
Yeah, yeah, positives first as always. Well, despite Studio Trigger giving another merely decent show, it does not fail in the characters department. Most of the characters have a distinct trait that keeps them interesting to watch, and while many characters take this trait to the extreme, making them one-dimensional, or are just there for exposition, this show focuses more on their relationships with others instead of the characters themselves. For those confused, think of the character dynamics being the center of attention instead of character development. Sure, the development still exists, but it takes a backseat to the relationships. Anyway, I really like how the show handles its character dynamics. Sometimes, a character will switch to the bad side for a silly reason and forget that they were trying to do good, and the entire episode just turns into a “bring them back” plot, and this is quite annoying, but most of the time the characters stay true to themselves. Plus, I feel the character’s care and affection towards each other really makes their interactions genuine, such as whenever Mako defends Ryuko in her spotlight way. As for the characters themselves...they’re pretty solid. As I said before, most characters have that one trait taken to the extreme. Mako is an extreme airhead, Gamagori is extremely strict, Mako’s mom is a housewife, etc. This does make them one-dimensional, but characters like Gamagori get an interesting backstory along with development so it isn’t all too bad. As for the main character, Ryuko, she’s easily a trope that could have gone wrong, but thanks to her backstory, motivations, and drive, she’s a solid character.
I also love the animation and art style for this show. Whereas LWA was a lot more comedic and the sloppy animation helped with that, this show is much more serious and has solid animation to back it up. Sometimes, animation errors such as slightly bigger heads exist, but they aren’t really bad and more something to laugh at. The fight scenes also benefit from the animation, as they seem professionally made. You can tell by how the blade strikes bend into the background and how seamlessly fluid the animation is during the fight scenes. I can easily follow along with what’s happening and who’s fighting because the colors for each side stand out clearly. Not only that but the fight scenes in this show value substance over style, something I’ve been craving for from a show in months. Sure, some fights do last an insane amount of time, taking up an entire episode, but there usually is a twist or two that keep the fight interesting.
But enough praise! You’re probably wondering why the show’s only alright. Well...remember how I said the twists were generally good in the fight scene? That doesn’t go for most of the show, as the writing is pretty mediocre. Lots of twists in this show either make very little sense or are quite predictable, taking out a lot of suspense in the show. The constant exposition being thrown at me, while interesting, really bogs down the story as there is no variation in the way it is given. The whole premise of Life Fibers and the antagonist’s plan is quite stupid, as it hinges on EVERY SINGLE PERSON, EVEN GODDAMN NEWBORNS, wearing REVOCS clothing all at the same time, which is kinda stupid to me. Speaking of the antagonists, they kinda suck. Satsuki is fine, although her similarity to the Nazis and how the show brushes it away by saying “I was trying to fight the bigger evil” really grinds my gears and sends a bad message, but her mother is quite annoying because she’s one of those villains who has a plan for literally every scenario. This can be done right if the plans are clever, but most of the counter-plans aren’t, turning her into a pseudo-Mary-Sue (I hate saying that phrase). However, she’s not the worst one. No, that would be Nui Harime, the aggravating bitch that she is. Seriously, she’s really annoying because her personality just makes me want to hate her. I get it, she’s a villain, I’m supposed to hate her, but it’s not in a way where I at least sorta respect. The fact that she commits atrocious acts and does it all with a smile creeps me out, while her having [DATA REDACTED DUE TO SPOILERS] just makes her seem unnecessarily OP. She’s extremely annoying to watch, and the fact that she technically wins, in the end, doesn’t make me feel better.
So, yeah, Kill La Kill is just decent. For those who have been around for a while, you’ll see the percent is the exact same as the one for No Game, No Life. I used to find it as just confidence, but thinking about it more, they have similar but different problems. NGNL has great writing with its sense of worldbuilding, twists, and creativity, but struggles in the character department due to blandness and one-dimensional traits. Meanwhile, Kill La Kill has great characters (or at least great character interactions), but the writing falls in predictability a good amount of the times and the number of plot points that are hinged on basically luck is just plain ridiculous. I wonder if I were to add both parts if the sum would be greater than or equal to its parts.
Anyway, this is me, your good(ish) pal TR20 signing off. As I type this, it’s 10 at night and spring break ends today, so let me make the most of my 8-hour sleep. Good night, and don’t forget to support if you liked this scorecard and review!

In my opinion, I find Kill la Kill really bad. The content is just so brutal.

I'm wondering if you still have plans regarding the Cory in the House scorecard, given that your recent reviews are that of anime and said show is memed as the "best anime".

Cancelled that a while ago due to trouble actually finding the show, low quality when I did, and that I was burned out after the 4 other shows I did. Maybe I’ll go back to it, but it’s not a top priority.

Yeah, Ragyo isn't a super interesting antagonist and there's a lot of exposition, but the style and great characters make this show so much fun to watch.
And I can excuse the kinda stupid story because that's not really the focus of the show and I think it's pushed so over the top that I don't really take it seriously. An over the top story could take away from investment in the show, but the characters drive the show so emotional moments still work for me and I still stay invested.

I say this is a mighty fine scorecard. I never have seen the show yet, but I have always wanted to.
