Hello, from
I tried to comment for this a couple weeks ago, had like three sentences written out, and the damned tab/window kept wanting to reload. Β Pissed me off something fierce!!! Β So, take 2...
The small off-white spots scattered around makes me think instead of how one looks at the sun (or other bright item) itself, then close your eyes. Β Very bottom, and all these darker shades, including the ones we can see Through the legs as they are behind her are indeed `Shades`.. and demons, imps, and other specters. Β There are more in the very upper left. Β The various oranges, yellows, and reds blended around the wings and body.
This is a nice effort. Β
Kudos, and thanks for a pretty picture all around.

I'll be honest my immediate thought was "El Pajaro de Fuego", an old russian fable regarding a young man who is sent to a kingdom for a reason I can't yet recall, who falls for a woman who he wishes to free from an abusive man in what I believe was a castle or a tower, been a long time. The tale revolves around the fire bird, the phoenix who was reborn numerous times in order to obtain freedom.Β

The essence of the painting is very good, clear to the eye and shows your intention, a position of power beyond a human expression that becomes ethereal and unreachable. A bird the sun.

Honestly regarding the painting and colors I personally don't like the sudden whites, as they take away the attention and can make a bit of an uncanny effect, taking attention away from the bird. I like the left wing, but the right one doesn't much look like a bird's but like hair, so personally I'd recommend looking at and trying to trace bird wings as they're flying , walking, etc. Overall a good job though.Β

Hi from Project comment!
That's a pretty cool painting! Lately i see way too many digital paintings and whenever a traditional painting comes to my sight i'm a bit moved.
I like the poweful colors you used, they're perfect for this subject, symbol of life and fire (which is symbol of life itself!).Β
Here comes a tip from me: if you want to get a more abstract painting try to paint without a previous sketch, or make it reeeeally thin. I also think you should've given more space to yellow feathers instead of "cutting" them with the red paint. Try to see some references about wings, realistic ones, so you can see how the feathers are placed.
Also try not to evidence too much the borders if you want something more "evanescent" (?), abstract. Try to blend colors, to let them flow and don't build bridges between colors.
By the way... i firstly thought that this painting was a reference from dark souls, since there's a character named Solaire. He's a guy who loves and pursuits the sun, "a magnificent father", and he became undead to seek his very own sun, like a phoenix whoΒ rises from the ashes.

I came here from Project Comment, so you know it’s worth being a part of.
I really like this piece. It’s simple yet elegant. The colors go really well together (which they should, because they’re all basically the same. Looks like you going for a bit of a minimalistic approach, but I could really go for some more subtle detail. I’m not saying outline and draw an eye, but maybe darken an area in the rough shape of an eye, you know? But I’m one who likes details, so you don’t have to listen to me on that one.

There are a few spots that are just a little too dark and out of place (just above the wing on the left, for example. Also, for the most part I would say just get rid of the original outline. Might be nicer to make the viewer β€œguess” a little more. The plumage on the head definitely needs that outline though, otherwise we would no longer be able to see it. The specks of add some nice contrast to it.

Overall I really like what you did with this here. Looks like you keep improving as time goes by. Don’t give up! Keep up the good work!

Haha, it's supposed to be French for "solar," but I have since learned it also refers to a character?

I have to be honest here, this painting is beautiful, the colors, the textures... it all comes together to make the image look alive, the detail put into it and the fact that all of the measurements have been made accurate, it amazes me, I would like to point out that the bending affect that you made with the fenix and the surrounding background is really great... all of the colors fit together to make the image appear special and clearly gives off the feeling of heat.

Overall, a really great piece of artwork... you should definitely keep this up, I would really like to see more masterpieces like this, I look forward to seeing more of your artwork in future, I hope you wouldn't mind stopping by my deviants as well, would you?

Very cool painting! This caught my eye over the other thumbnails in ProjectComment because of the vibrant colors. I've always liked phoenixes, and I had to draw one for a project recently so I was studying how to get the fire effect shaped into a bird, such as you did here, and a good job at that!

I love water color for just this reason. There is a bit of randomness and texture that brings a lot of life to the painting. I think I can see some pencil sketch lines when I look in closely, which is good. But I was actually going to say you possibly could have spent a little more time in the sketch phase to bring out the shape and the detail a bit more. Details help people to associate with things better which brings out more emotion.

You got the fire part right. For a common flame it is usually yellow on the inside and tapers off to red. Although, for a more intense flame you can also leave it white in the central hottest area. I think that might have worked to your benefit in this case to bring more balance to the values, but that is probably somewhat subjective. The white paint drops do help bring out a contrast a bit too, and you have some rich dark areas so it is pretty good as is.

Overall I can't nitpick much because I feel as though this is an expressive painting, so for that I can say that it's really cool and I think you did a great job on the color and brush strokes!
