How do I get a picture that I scanned into the computer onto gimp so that I can color it?

You could probably fix that by looking in the adjustments/tabs in GIMP and changing the "point size" of the stroke option. There ought to be several different options for line thickness.

If you're talking about just the GIMP file format, you could probably upload it just as is, but you'd need a preview picture and it'd only appear as a downloadable file.
If you're talking about a picture format such as .BMP or .JPEG, go to File>Save As, and then you'll be able to change the picture format to .JPEG or .BMP from the "Save As" menu.

Look under the "Window" drop down menu and there ought to be a tab with "Layers" and the other features you're looking for. Click on them and a check mark will appear next to each. Then they'll reappear.

yay! I found it in gimp 2.6 it's under "windows" and then "dockable dialogs" it would have been so much easier if I had known how to label layers last week!

yes I spent a good hour injuring my cranium trying to figure out how to make a rectangle with curved corners. your tutorials were most helpful. I was able to stroke the path and then manage the layers much easier than I had previously known to make a bunch of buttons for my website.

Do you know exactly what it should say? I looked under, but I didn't understand mostof the things there. Is it layers or something?

It probably should be called Layers.

Try looking under the "View" or "Toolbox" tabs and put a check mark next to it to get it to show up.
