Description
On March 27, 2012, I happened to be driving by this scene at just the right moment to veer across two lanes of traffic to pull over and grab this photo. Lehigh Heavy Forge is the only remaining operating part of the Bethlehem Steel complex in Bethlehem, PA, and the two switchers belong to Lehigh Valley Rail Management, the post-2003 incarnation of the Bethlehem Steel plant railroad (the Philadelphia, Bethlehem & New England). In a scene that is still happening after 60+ years of service, the same 1950's-era switchers are pulling what appears to be a newly-forged generator shaft out of the building. It was neat to watch history repeat itself right before my eyes.Related content

Its quite awesome that some industries have the most epic and old locomotives still working... nice photo!

Kewl! Thanks for the memories! My dad used to work at the Bethlehem Steel shipyards in Hoboken, NJ, as a burner, but it's such a mundane word for the artist-with-a torch he was.

I'm sitting in Hoboken as we speak, only about a mile from the old shipyards!
