Real World Lore & Info

The famous deadly serpent ,which earliest account known originates in the ancient Roman writings by the ancient Roman Naturalist Pliny the Elder in his books Naturalis Historia first published in the year 77 ADE where Pliny wrote of the basilisk's deadly glare.
According to Pliny's book the basilisk are reported to be native to Cyrene. They where described as a small snake no bigger than twelve fingers in length with a white spot on its head.
The basilisk was known historically and legendarily to have the ability to kill with its glare and even said to wither and curl plant life when unable to find animals to wither with their gaze.
Referred to as the king of snakes their visually described to resemble a reptile of sorts despite this. They are seemingly like another deadly reptile like creature the Cockatrice, seeing how the traditional depictions of basilisk are drawn with some features of domestic chickens features and weirdly usually with more than four legs, but along side the multi-legged depictions they were still referred to as a serpent Their similarity with the Cockatrice go further than the two creatures sharing Chicken characteristic as the basilisk are said to be born in a way that are the reverse as the way of a cockatrice(A.E Its said that Basilisks are born from egg laid by an old rooster that is then said to be reared by a serpent or toad. While as I said its supposed to be the reverse for a Cockatrice).
Along with The Beast of Gevaudun, the Basilisk is a quite well known creatures that are considered cryptids being referred in many works of fiction such as J.K Rollings' Harry Potter series. Of course, Dungeons and Dragons has their own version of Basilisks which they can petrify it's victim with a bite
While widely known across multiple continents in our modern day most people in first world countries don't consider the basilisk to be a real animal, but their is a small lizards named after the mythical creature. Which is named Basiliscus or commonly known as Jesus lizards due to their ability to sprint across the surface of water for a short distances

My take on Basilisks are actually one of my fictional type of animal I call them Slizards. Slizards are neither Lizards or snakes Slizards share many features of snake and lizards but in fact diverged from the lizard family after snakes did.
Slizards usually posses front limbs but usually no hind limbs but even some have hind limbs. But they still have some non-lizard and more snake-like features
My version of Basilisks are Coastal Slizards who despite their petrifying bite they hunt and eat much smaller creatures specifically fish sense my Basilisk are semi-aquatic. their large hand like front feet a meant for both climbing up sea cliff but also actually swim much like a lot of apes(including humans)swim at the surface. In other words my Basilisk swim while at the surface in a breast sroke type manner.

I mentioned in one of the last posts take put up that I have been drawing little new things but I could have a chance to spend some more time drawing ounce I'm done creating a little bit in to the future posting schedule, which I pretty close to getting it where I want it, then I can dedicate to drawing
This art is as far as I'm concerned it's good but definitely not perfect. Plus my Spore creation is an older one, but one good thing is that you can go back and edit the Spore creations at any time, so Touch it up a bit. .
I Have actually attributed a few of my versions of cryptids as Slizards, but I have drawn/made several other Slizards that's not just cryptids.
I do believe it was the first cryptid I categorized as a Slizard however
