Chessie is the name of a creature or creatures who call the Chesapeake Bay of North America’s eastern coast home. Reports of serpent-like creatures in the bay start with a cluster of eye witness stories being told around 1977, another series of sightings were reported during the mid 1980s. Reports of Chessie were all ways described as a serpentine creature lacking any limbs or any other appendices, the creature was reported be any where from 25ft/8.3m to as long as 40ft/13.3m in length.
Seemingly not an explanation for Chessie but still related, a Photograph of an unidentified large sea creature was taken around Chesapeake Bay was later identified as a manatee. Odd for a manatee to be that far from Florida, eventually the manatee which was nicknamed Chessie after the legend of the mystery creature was taken back to Florida in 1994. Oddly the manatee has been had an unconfirmed sighting in Patapsco River near the Chesapeake Bay sometime around 2010. A more recent sighting and a far more credible one was confirmed by US Geological Survey biologist that sighting being had after 2011. But despite being nicknamed by locals a manatee can not explain the reports of a snake-like creature in the bay.
The earliest story of a serpentine creature spotted near Baltimore was recorded in the 2003 book Weird Maryland. The details of the story are as follows, in 1943 two perch fishermen Francis Klarrman and Edward j. Ward when out in in coastal waters near Baltimore they spotted a object in and partially protruding from the surface of the water. According to the story the men estimated the shape was around 75 yards from their boat and appeared to be floating or swimming on the surface. It seemed from what of the thing was visible to be about 12ft with what looked like the creatures head, which was held out of the water and was around the size of a football, the fishermen described the head of the creature as like that of horse. For what its worth the description of what was referred to as Chessie was strangely not said to possess the features described from the creature encountered in the 1940s. So if both reported creatures were real animals they were likely not the same type of animal.
In 1982 couple Robert and Karen Frew videotaped a recording of a large brownish object moving side to side off the shores of Kent Island , the movement of the object was not unlike a snake.
The name Chessie is likely not only named that way after it’s area it supposedly lives the Chesapeake Bay. Chessie like other lake and sea monster that vaguely resembles a Plesiosaur it’s name was inspired by the most famous lake monster Nessie

My take on what Chessies is that of aquatic snake as large in length as some of of the longest Burmese Pythons. But Chessies are not related to pythons instead they are a derived descendants of early members of Viperidae that swam into the sea separately then the other two types of “sea” snakes those being true sea snakes and sea Kraits. Instead these aquatic snakes returning to the waters in the eastern half of the planet my original lineage of snakes which are know scientifically as Aqua Scelerosque Anguis (Thermal Water Snakes). With this particular species being known Cobaltum Aqua Scelerisque Anguis (Cobalt Thermal Water Snake). This lineage of water snake journeyed back to the sea on the west side of the Eurasian continent
Chessies physically are relatively robust in thickness similar to that of the likes of snakes that lean more into constriction for a hunting strategy. My Chessie and their other Thermal Water snake relatives are able to hunt larger prey thanks to their longer length with the smallest in length of Thermal Water Snake still being on average a meter longer than the largest sea snake IRL(which is 10ft/3.3m). Covering the entire length of the animal is spike or needle like scales similar to those of the so called Hairy Viper. Unlike the small weakly constructed scales of the Hairy Viper the stone hard spiky scales of the Chessie are used like sort of Armour which helps since Chessies swim slowly and obliviously through the water making ir an easy target. Chessies posses poor eye sight and instead relies on movement of the water being made by their prey. The Armour covering of Chessies is pretty regular in general appearance all along the body and continuing down to right before the end which the tail tip has adapted into a rigid curved paddle shape. At the opposite end of a Chessie is the animal's head which is in armour also, every where on the surface of Chessies heads are plated and or hardened giving them a helmet-like profile to their heads. Their eyes are large yet their sight is poor. While visually Chessies and other Thermal Water Snakes retain the holes between the eyes and tip of the snout that on a normal Pit Viper are used to detect heat from warmblooded prey but are now just Vestigial in nature.
Thermal Water snakes the Subfamily that Chessies belong to are named as such because of their ability to raise their body temperature above that of their surroundings making them what is called homeotherms. The same classification as is believed prehistoric animals like ichthyosaurs, pterosaurs, and some non-avian dinosaurs. This warmer blooded nature allow the Thermal Water snake lineage to inhabit more cool regions. Of course the point of focus of my Earth (Tera Prime) being two million years in the future of our Earth. And the climate of the world has changed since our modern day to be in most places significantly hotter than it is the same latitude in our modern day Earth.
Chessies as mentioned before hunt relatively large prey , those being as large as 40% the length of the Chessie. They prefer more streamlined prey when young their favorite prey are sea-trouts but will move on to larger prey as they grow. Chessie hunts by a method of drifting near movement-less waiting for a fish to get with in striking range after which they'll strike. The Chessie raps-up and grapples the prey and due to a lack of significant venom or at least deadly venom for venom has all but evolved away. Chessie have dis-proportionally large lung even more so compared to the likes of human. Since snakes only have one lung, the lung of Chessies are even more robust than the lung of other sea snakes. Because of their extreme lung capacity allows Chessies to hold their breath for as long as some dolphin species. They hunt in a different way than other sea snakes, after grappling a prey fish Chessie will just precede to engulf the fish. Meanwhile the whole time a Chessie is grappling and swallowing it is beginning to sink in the water. Once a fish is swallowed the satiated Chessie will start to make it’s way to the nearest shore or more likely just a series rock that break the surface of the water. The Chessie will then rest in a sorta torpor until it’s meal is digested enough.
Chessies are native to the north eastern coastal seas of Narith(future North Amerca),the western north coastal waters of Aurapp(future Eurasia), in addition to the coastal waters along the two coast Chessies are native to the waters between them which is what is known as the Colonial Sea. Which is a slightly deeper portion of water between the two continents of Narith and Aurapp

This cryptid drawing chronically was made right after CryptidABCs#0056:Champ despite this one being #0058.
My drawing of a Chessie’s spiked and armoured appearance on the animals body is more accurate then the skin covering (or lack there of) of my Spore version of a Chessie. The reason for the small scale covering of spiky armour on my spore Chessie is first because of time-span issue, you see with a creature like to this covering completely with spike as seen in the drawing it not only can be very time-consuming that much detail might be too much for my computer to handle.
As far as my depictions of creatures. This drawing I feel I could do better but do remember this drawing was drawn around fall 2021. Since when this drawing was made I have really ramp upped my creation process, so have drawn a lot since then.
Next post due go up is a cryptid bird creature from islands of the Caribbean
