But yes, it was to call Yae's attention; if she saw her sister was hurt, she obviously wouldn't run away and abandon her. And since Sae's leg was hurt, they would have to guve up the plan (note: her leg was not permanently damaged like Mayu's)
Sadly, while Yae ran, she crossed the village limits and somehow (I guess the curse) lost all her memories. Then Ryozo came by to help her and they got married 8D
