Description Bleach savvy viewers will probably get the joke behind this.

Everyone else:

Back in the Soul Society stuff, Genryusai fights against Kyouraku and Ukitake. When Kyouraku and Ukitake perform their releases, Genryusai comments that 'those are the only two double releases within Soul Society.' Then about 200 chapters later, Hisagi performs his release and...it's a double...so much for continuity.

Anyway, I've been meaning to post this for a while. Finally got around to coloring it. Enjoy.

Bleach belongs to Kubo.

I think the reason Kazeshini isn't dual is because his spirit is only one entity, not two. Can't blame the creators though, Hisagi would never win against two Kazeshinis...ever.

i think dual zanpakuto refer to dual spirits. Kazeshini is still one guy. Sogyo no Kotowari and Katen Kyoukotsu (sp?) are both two spirits.

I kind of feel sorry for Hisagi, but I think the twin zanpaktou refers to identical swords when in a released state.

Hisagi can't join the club on a technicality. I give him cookies as a consolation prize.

its the fact that they are the only SEPERATE shikai's in soul society, and they are not really swords either

A lot of people have already mentioned this, but dual Zanpakuto refer to the fact that the Shinigami (i.e. - Kyouraku & Ukitake) actually have TWO swords prior to releasing their Shikai.

I thought Ukitake only had one and that is split into two when in shikai.

Could be wrong tho..

No no, he has only one...he *peels* it apart when going into shikai...I really think it refers to actual swords in shikai, Hisagi has, like, scythes.

Oh, and I love your "Bike" signature.

still funny.

I was going to mention Ikkaku's bankai having actually -three- swords/blades/whatever, and then I remembered that... like, only Yumichika and Renji know of Ikkaku's bankai.

This made me laugh so hard. I wondered the same thing.

Theory(ish)
1. One of the non canon archs of the anime showed the spirits of some of the zanpaktos. Shunsui's spirits were twins that liked to play games. Hisagi's sword was a solitary spirit with a great desire to kill. If that arch has some truth to the spirits, then it might mean that Yama was talking about the spirits and not just the form.

2. Going off that, Hisagi's sword appears to work as one piece - just a two sided weapon (someone else mentioned this earlier). The captains swords appear to have different purposes that make each sword reflect a different action/power. Take Ukitake's as an example, one sword absorbs and the other sends the attack back.

Maybe that is the difference?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Gragthor In reply to nixling [2009-12-25 06:37:21 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, it's clear now that Kyoraku and Ukitake's zanpakutou have twin spirits. But reflect back on when this chapter first came out...I was psyched when I read the line "Reap, Kazeshini!" And then...a zanpakutou that looks very much like a double release. I face palmed super hard, but I have since forgiven Kubo, as he is made of awesome.

cronomatt [2009-10-26 11:33:13 +0000 UTC]

Very nice. Very funny.

I'm going to both the devil's advocate and the optimist for this.

Yeah Yamamoto said that they were the only two with double sword releases, so he should be critisized a little for that. And Hishagi's weapon is pretty similar to Ukitake at least in basic shape.

However, at the same time, the giant's little brother had a release with multiple small releases. While that may not be the best defense, especially recarding byakuya's sword, another interpretation of what yamamoto said was that they are the only soul reapers that use a two sword style in their shikai states. After all 'nito-', the double kendo style, is a very rare swordstyle. Its not to be confused with traditional samurai combat, with a katana in one hand and a short blade in the other. Hishagi most certainly does not use nito style for his blades.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Gragthor In reply to cronomatt [2009-10-26 16:28:06 +0000 UTC]

I guess the nito thing makes sense, especially given Kyoraku's recent abilities. But hey, I'm glad you still enjoyed the comic for what it is.

Goji1954 [2009-10-17 07:31:00 +0000 UTC]

Thats funny, i thought that at first to until Hisagi said he doesn't like his release, and though well he probably doesn't use it very often so Yama might no know about it.

Didn't use it when he fought Yumichika in the SS arc.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Gragthor In reply to Goji1954 [2009-10-18 05:33:45 +0000 UTC]

That's true, but consider this:

Hisagi is a lieutenant, and Yumichika is 5th seat. Hisagi probably thought he wouldn't have to use his release against anyone bellow lieutenant. How wrong was he

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Goji1954 In reply to Gragthor [2009-10-18 07:51:16 +0000 UTC]

Yeah i thought that part was pretty funny. He at least would have put up a decent fight had he released Kazeshini.

In regards to my original statement about old man Yama not knowing about his zanpakuto it would seem that it's not uncommon for seated officers, liuetenants, and captains to hide there swords true forms for whatever reason like Soi Fon, her liuetenant never saw her Bankai before the fight with Barragan because she was ashamed of it, Yumichika because the squad he's in hates non melee type Zanpakuto, Kisuke has never once shown his Bankai after obtaining it due to whatever deadly affect it may have. So Hisagi may have hid his the entire time because of the disgust for it's appearence and bloodlusting spirit.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Gragthor In reply to Goji1954 [2009-10-18 16:12:30 +0000 UTC]

Makes sense. That seems to have been a common theme during this battle though. "I love my sword, but I hate it's power." But, in the end, it's still fun to see two veteran captains picking on poor Hisagi

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Goji1954 In reply to Gragthor [2009-10-19 06:36:06 +0000 UTC]

Yeah i know, you gotta wonder what the reaction would be to Yama-jii finding out there was another dual bladed Zanpakuto just because of how rare he said they are, would like to see what Hisagi's Bankai would look like. Him Yumichika and Kira.

o-Briyi [2009-10-08 05:47:55 +0000 UTC]

ah yeah that's another thing i was thinking of when hisagi finally releae his zanpakuto, its 2 pineweel scythe thingies! ad old yama-ji did say only Shunsui and Juushiro-chan had the only zanpakutos in doubes! kubos been messing up a bit lately but meh D; his fault fr creating 109031571984791 characters!

HakuGinNoEtude [2009-09-30 08:54:17 +0000 UTC]

lolKubophail

The way I see it, there's two explanations for this.

A) Hisagi rarely, if ever, uses his Shikai; and Yamamoto's getting up there in age. If he's even ever seen Hisagi's release; he's probably forgotten about it by now.

B) Perhaps because it's connected by a chain; it's not technically a "double" weapon - more like a pair of nunchucks. Big, unwieldy, bladed nunchucks.

Hisagi's shikai has only one function- but the shikais of Ukitake and Kyouraku have maybe two:
water/electricity and flower/wind...
