Description
I've managed to complete the UV Mapping and texture templates for the new Carrier, which I've named the LPOYVS Nikita Khrushchev (to keep with the Soviet tendency to name capital ships after important political figures or high-ranking military officers)... I still need to set up the dummy deck crew, flags, optional anchor chains, and some low-poly Helicopters as extra props for her, and she still needs to be rigged so that the working parts will actually function...Related content

Yeah she has that worn look that Soviet ships had from bad upkeep. So you are right on the money.

I'd given the Oriskany a touch of grunge too... it builds up at sea between up-keep periods... but I didn't go quite as heavy with it as I did on this one...

Well the Soviets always looked like they were about to sink at their moorings in photographs so I think they were beyond grunge lol

Probably because half the ships in those photo's were actually sinking at their moorings... the better part of 70% of the old Soviet fleet couldn't even raise steam in the boilers and the few ships that had power were getting it from on-shore generator stations most of the time. About half the Soviet fleet wasn't considered use-able for anything other than scrap... lol

You forgot motels and that is frightening lol. I am actually curious about just how many submarines actually made it back from deployment. I suspect more than we will ever know.

I've heard stories about sailors in the Soviet submarine fleet selling torpedo fuel on the black market just to get money so they could afford to eat...

No, and didn't help that the Soviets were completely bankrupt way before they collapsed... most of their military gear was rotting away on the airfeilds, bunkers and at the moorings... no money for fuel, provision, or maintenance. Half the bases didn't even have electricity because the Gov't hadn't paid the power suppliers...

To paraphrase that quote from Heinlein "You can't make an apple tart out of a mudpie." Not even sure why they even called communism. Admittedly we aren't a democracy or truly capitalistic but we aren't falling apart yet.

Problem was they never made it to the final stage that communism is supposed to reach... the government was supposed to seize control of all possessions only long enough to redistribute them evenly to everyone then they were supposed to become unnecessary and be disbanded once everyone had been given equal shares of all things... This never happened and instead it became a dictatorship in essence with "elections" being held only to uphold the image of the process...

All about an appearance of legitimacy. Especially when you are claiming to be for the people and not just the ruling class. No way communism could have worked any way humans aren't wired that way.
