I was asked to make some cupcakes for a friend's summer party, and I decided to go with a sea creature theme. Octopus, crab, starfish, and tropical fish. I wanted to use bright colors, both cool and warm to represent the hot sun and cool water. All of these guys were made using buttercream frosting with #8 tip for bodies and #3 tip for appendages and eyes.I love fishies!!
I finally broke down and bought that cupcake stand I've been wanting for soooo long. I love it!! After I had all the cupcakes on there it reminded me of an ocean Christmas tree...

where did you learn to do icing like that? did you read a book or take a class? i would love to do stuff like that. i always love halloween and making gross foods/food art. i always win the grossest looking food contest. i've always wanted to learn to make garnishes, too...

I work as a cake decorator and had a background in this kinda thing... The frosting animals I just kinda came up with. I enjoy making them so I just continued to think up different things to make!

I made about 40 cupcakes and I only have 6 left... I gave a lot of them away and my nieces and nephews had about 5 each!
