Okay, I know this idea is old hat and unoriginal, but I enjoy making one every July 4th so I took a picture.
The cake I used was white cake which I turned into a jello cake by adding strawberry jello to it. I put a layer of sliced strawberries on top of the cake and then frosted it with Cool Whip. I love jello cake!

How is this mixing jello in the cake thing? I mean, the look of it (hummm) and the way you have described it (You are a bad person! hummmm..) made me wonder how on Earth you have mixed the jello to the cake...Do you mix the jello powder to the uncooked mixture of the cake then put it in the fridge(wandering if I am being clear here o_O) or do you make jello first and then...
No it doesn't make sense...

Well, heres how the jello cake thing works:
1) bake a yellow or white cake, I use a 13x9 in pan
2) cool cake
3) mix up a box of jello per regular instructions on the box, I like to use strawberry but any flavor will do
4) take a big fork and pierce the top of the cake all the way down to the bottom. I try to keep an inch distance between each fork poking.
5) pour jello over the top of cake, try to distribute evenly
6) put cake in fridge to firm up for a couple hours
7) frost with whipped cream or cool whip
8) share the cake with friends or keep it to yourself!

You should!! Just poke holes in a cooled cake with a fork and pour a prepared package of jello over it and refridgerate! Yum!
