Wonderful colour palette. Great lighting and framing - turning a great technical 3D render, into a genuine piece of art. I love the subject matter too - just enough futuristic hints, without taking away the essence of what makes an establishment which looks after the oldest profession just that.

Dang, that lighting is the best. I assume it's some kind of bordello, but my immediate thought upon seeing it was that it looked like a really comfy place to hang out.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

TheSphinx In reply to CrispyLettuce [2014-02-04 23:26:47 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I assumed it was some kind of brothel too when I first saw the original 2D concept (the link is in the description ), but it kinda looks like someone adapted their own house to function as such, maybe that's why it looks comfy
Thank you very much for your comment, Korinne, and also for faving!

This is beyond beautiful. The only thing that seems slightly off is the repetition in the staircase texturing, but all in all it's absolutely hypnotic - I saw this featured below and just had to say so. You'd be a god at set or level design modeling for movies and/or games.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

TheSphinx In reply to UncleHappy5 [2014-02-04 23:33:03 +0000 UTC]

Thank you very much for taking the time to comment, Stephen, and also for faving! Yeah, I guess the repetition doesn't work that well.. The original 2D concept (the link is in the description) has a repeating texture there too, but I guess it works better there, maybe because of how the lighting affects it!..
I do work as a 3D artist at a games studio, it's been over a year now, but haven't had the pleasure to create something like this yet

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

UncleHappy5 In reply to TheSphinx [2014-02-06 10:02:30 +0000 UTC]

Absolutely I'm most impressed with how you handled the reflective surfaces and the lighting, gives it a great photo-realistic quality. Oh, my bad, I'd not yet taken a look at the concept, might just be a bit of artistic OCD talking on my part. Oh man, I've always wanted to work for a game studio ever since I played my first computer game, so pretty much my whole life - I did try applying at a few places but had no luck, nor have I ever had the opportunity yet to work on any truly decent 3D programs, but I understand a bit of how most of them work and I've made a few character models using a couple of older modeling programs. I haven't quite got a bachelor's degree, but I've majored in visual arts ever since junior high and have accumulated about 2 years worth of visual arts classes at university, and I've been using computers and drawing my whole life. Any advice?

TheSphinx In reply to UncleHappy5 [2014-03-08 23:20:53 +0000 UTC]

I don't have many advices other than working very hard in order to turn your portfolio (and specially your skillset) richer and richer. I've heard that studios don't care much about what you study, they want to know what you're capable of doing. Of course, having a visual arts degree helps you a lot, as they won't completely ignore your Education background, but showing them that you can do what they need, and do it well, is a very important step towards your objective. I had a 4-year-length degree in Digital Arts and Multimedia + 2 year Masters' degree in Animation by Computer. When I concluded my studies, I faced a year and half of unemployment, during which I worked as hell on my own. I finally made a demoreel, sent my application to more than 500 places, and only 2 or 3 replied, and asked me to make an art test, which apparently they did not approve. Then, one studio only 4km away from my home called me for an interview and eventually hired me. I've been working there since, and projects keep coming. I barely have time to work or even feel like doing it on my freetime, as professional work drains all my energy x) Unfortunately, this industry requires that you are very skilled, if you have no professional experience.. Seems like noone is interested in accepting juniors, every studio wants experienced artists. But how can you gain experience if no one gives you the chance to get it?.. It's very difficult, specially if you live in a country other than the one where the studios are. You are from the United States, so I believe it must (or at least should) be a little easier for you to apply for an internship. I'd say that's the best option you have But apply only when you have a strong portfolio!
