That is not only a fine portrait, but on a more personal level uncannily close to how I imagined the wicked wizard.
Perhaps we read the same book -.o

Thanks! It's cool that we had a similar image, given how Gibson likes to be a bit ambiguous with his character descriptions xD

There are not a lot of fictional characters that resemble him. Even the character he is straight up based on - his name was "the Mouse" if memory serves right - is almost exactly his opposite in many ways, so to picture Riviera in detail one pretty much has to consider the then-contemporary personalities popularly associated with illusionism, eccentricity and harsh living.
And suddenly, you have a frighteningly delightful cocktail of the most extreme traits of David Copperfield, David Bowie and Iggy Pop.
The only significant difference is a detail that is probably a matter of age. Read Neuromancer in the late 90's when sleek "invisible" computer design was still a niche and frosted plastic was still prevalent enough to be the norm, so rather than decorative scarring, pictured him to have an emphasised slot low on the side of the ribcage from where the optics would extract when in use.

Dude, I saw one of your pieces pop up somewhere on Tumblr the other day, and I was like "Hey I recognize that!"
Had to swing back by to see what else you're working on, and I gotta say, it's blowing me away. Keep it up friend!

I always imagined him with a mustache for some reason, possibly because I got this "old world illusionist" image of him This is really neat though, I guess the scars on the chest are from the operation to replace half his lungs with the laser gear?

Yeah that's the funny thing about visualizing literature - everybody has a unique image in their head. I always enjoy hearing different interpretations.

Very nice artwork for an amazing novel! It's always interesting to see how others imagine characters to look like from written fiction. This is a pretty neat one
