Description
One random day about 150 million years ago in what is today the Morrison Formation, North America, at the edge of a pine-like tree forest with an undergrowth of ferns, a Brontosaurus excelsus is having a bad day.

An adult individual of Allosaurus fragilis is attacking the huge sauropod and literally eating it alive, ripping large pieces of muscle off the horrific gaping wound on the herbivore's hind leg.

While a single Allosaurus is visible, the size of the wound suggests the sauropod might have been attacked by more than one individual, perhaps converging on the same prey because it was sick or weak for some reason.

Although definitely still alive, the Brontosaurus isn't able to walk anymore due to the extent of its injury; the damage done by the carnivore's teeth have been extended to the caudofemoralis muscle, which impairs the usage of the tail as a weapon.

The only thing the large herbivore can do is to clumsily drag itself on the underbrush and make drumming and pitiful distress calls in the faint hope to relieve its pain, leaving a trail of crushed ferns and blood-soaked ground behind it. Blood loss will eventually lead it to death, but who knows how long it will take.

Meanwhile, a couple of early troodontids are scampering around, hoping for some scraps of meat to steal.

Cicadas and grasshoppers sing loudly all around the scene of this impressive tragedy, covering the methodically rhytmic noise of the carnivore's teeth which saw off pieces of flesh and skin, and celebrating life with ruthless indifference.
