  It happened again. Dad got mad at Alex. Only this time, the beating was visible. He had a black eye, several bruises on his arms, and a busted lip. He was cleaning his new wounds when his younger brother opened the bathroom door.

  "Alex, are you okay?"

  "I-I'm fine, Josh. Go back to bed." Alex didn't want to turn around, even though at a time like this it would calm him to see his little brother's face, he didn't want Josh to see his.

  "But I heard yelling,"

   "It's okay, just go to sleep."

  "Okay," Josh said softly. He may have been young,but he knew something bad had happened.

  Alex entered the room shortly after Josh laid down. He was pretending to sleep,but Alex was far to distracted to notice. He quickly took off his day clothes and put on some sweatpants and a baggy hoodie. He looked down on Josh's still form. He was so beautiful. His skin was so pale, yet his hair and eyes so dark. Alex knew he would grow up to be a real heartbreaker. Alex would always just gaze at him from a far, just there to help him when he stumbles or falls. Alex reached out and tousled his hair gently.

  "I love you, buddy." he smiled to himself.

  "I love you to, Alex-" Josh rolled over and smiled up at him. "Alex...you're hurt!"

  "Don't worry...you make it feel better." Alex sat next to him on his lower bunk as Josh sat up.

  "Alex...I want to help you. I don't want Mom and Dad to get mad at you anymore. I wanna always make you feel better...I-I"

  "Don't worry, as long as you're here with me.....nothing else matters. No one, no place, nothing." Alex touched Josh's face gently, bringing him closer. Oh God...it was so wrong,but if only once...just once. It was the only way he could express how much he cared for and loved his little brother. Alex would always be there for him...always there to care and love him. Their lips brushed gently. Josh didn't object,but rather gave in. Josh held on tight to his brother, embracing him.

  "I'll always be there for you Alex, I promise."
