       Josh slept fitfully that night. He was far to worried for his older brother to be peaceful. He loved and cared for Alex so much and wanting nothing but for his brother to happy. So why did he always have so much trouble? Why was he always treated so badly? Josh couldn't wrap his mind around it, which irritated him even more.

       The next morning Josh was woken by his mother. After his normal ritual of taking a shower and getting dressed, he was eating a breakfast of orange juice, Special K, and toast when someone knocked on the door. It was Elle. She was wearing far to many layers for summer weather and had a black eye, along with other cuts and wounds. Some, Josh was sure, he couldn't see. She must have gotten them during her assault, no, her rape. She walked into the kitchen and sat across from Josh.

      "H-hey...is he okay?" She said softly.

      "Yeah,but he'll be in the hospital for a few days. I'm gonna see him later on today..."

      "That's good..." She smiled weakly. Her eyes were avoiding Josh's. She pulled her sleeves over her hands. He remembered feeling that way all the time. He could tell by her eyes, her movements, even her breathing, she felt ashamed. She felt it was her fault. He looked down at his wrists. He didn't wear his hoodie all the time now, but he did wear wristbands to cover the scars. He looked up and smiled.

     "It isn't your fault, Elle...." Josh said softly. Alex wasn't her to talk to her, it was Josh's turn to be the shoulder to cry on. "I know it hurts now,but...." He stood up and put his dishes into the sink. "....it'll get better, I promise. It will...and....there are people that care for you..."

     "B-but...." Elle began to full on cry now, which made Josh tear up. "What do you mean you know?" He eyes became wide when she processed his statement.

      "I...we...know what it feels like for someone to take advantage of you,but....it isn't your fault..you aren't dirty...they are..." Josh wrapped his left hand around his right shoulder and approached Elle. She backed up slightly in her chair. Elle was afraid to be touched. The rape kit was hell and right now, every man scared her. She soon relaxed, though and thought 'This is Josh, Alex's younger brother, the younger brother of the man who saved me...he wouldn't hurt me'.

       "Oh, Josh..." She embraced him from her seat and he held her tight.

       "Don't worry...we're here for you...everything is going to be okay..."
