Description
     The cries of the young mechanic were louder then normal. Shrill, yelping noises that expressed pure agony. He and Nick had just gone out for a normal supply run, but it had gone so wrong. Nick immediately responded to the younger man's cries, that weren't even words, but just outbursts of pain. Nick kicked it into high gear when he saw a Charger bursting towards the downed southerner. The mixture of such an inhuman noise and agonizing screams sent shivers of terror down Nick's spine. However, Ellis shot the zombie down before it could come to him and finish him off.

    "Shit, overalls, why the hell are you...oh God..." Nick's vision came into focus as Ellis still cried like he was being beaten. And he might as well have been...because his body was torn up. That signature hat was no where in sight. His pants were torn all over, hunks of flesh missing were the holes were, his shirt was ripped to shreds, the skin underneath was raw and burning. (most likely due to a witch), but the thing that disturbed Nick the most was his left arm...the bone was practically poking out, it was distorted at an odd angle, which meant it was definitely broken. His left hand...his left thumb....it was completely gone, maybe bitten off by one of the zombies. "Ellis..." Nick didn't know what to say. Members of their group  had been separated all the time, but nothing like this had ever happened. The boy's screaming began to turn into panicked groans and whimpers. "Don't worry...I'll get you up...its gonna be okay..." Nick gently picked up boy, not even bothering to see if he could walk and carried him in bride and groom style. Ellis gasped from the pain of being held, but Nick was being as gentle as possible.

    Trotting quickly against the earth, making his way back to the hospital the group was staying at. It was their haven. Since the military had let them down, they had be wondering around hopelessly, and had run into those other familiar survivors: Zoey, Louis, and Francis. The groups had joined forces and secured the hospital as their own. It was a good location, plenty of stores around, and of course, medical supplies. Louis, unexpectedly, seemed to have a talent for understanding medicine and surgery. He had a photographic memory of sorts, and had been studying up ever since the outbreak a year ago. Although each team member contributed as they could to the best of their ability, things hand become...dark. Zoey, who was once friendly and kind, had become a bitch beyond all reason and seemed to care about no one if they slowed the group down, Coach seemed to lose all hope in everything, Francis was unusually cold, and everyone else was just stressed. Ellis was the only one who seemed to stay his optimistic self.  His eyes were rolling from the pain, his whimpers tugging at Nick's heart strings. Sure, he was annoying, but the kid sure as hell didn't deserve this, not by a long shot.

   "Is bad?" Ellis choked out...he was bleeding out of his mouth as well. Nick just shook his head.

   When Nick burst through the emergency door of the hospital, Coach and Rochelle were on guard.

    "OH NO!" Rochelle screamed as she observed Ellis's battered being.

     "Good lord..." Coach gasped. Rochelle ran upstairs to get the others, as Nick laid the boy down gently on the nearest operating table.

     "Just fucking perfect..." Zoey exhaled as she trotted down the stairs, nonchalantly. Francis's eyes showed expression for the first time in months, and Louis quickly began running back and forth, grabbing supplies he seemed to need and directing the others. This was all a blur to Ellis, as he began fading in and out. The only thing keeping him conscious was Nick ever so often calling his name.

    "This should put him to sleep...." Louis stabbed a needle into Ellis's uninjured arm, but he didn't even notice the sensation amongst all the pain. Ellis didn't become completely alert until he felt Coach's strong, yet gentle, hands hold his shoulders down, Francis his one leg, Nick his other. The girls had his arms. His mind began spinning even more as his fellow survivors turned into images of horrifying monsters that one would see in the most horrendous of nightmares. Monsters that would shake grown men who had spent a life in prison to their core. He began, weakly, squirming. Then screaming....howling.

    " SHIT, I THOUGHT YOU SAID IT'D PUT HIM TO SLEEP?" Nick shouted over the screaming, trying not to squeeze the injured leg.

      "There's a possibility of hallucinations,but....." Louis said softly, trying not to stress anyone anymore then they already were.

   "OFFA MEH...GIT OFF..." Ellis screamed, tugging, and pulling. He was making the injuries worse. And then finally, he passed out. His head laying gently on the operating gurney.

   "Now...to get to work...oh dear Lord...his arm...." Louis stated calmly.


     Ellis woke up and felt instantly strange. He looked around the white room, the lights turned down low. He felt numb and tired. And then he saw his 'Knight In Shining Armor', leaning against the door frame, holding a bowl that seemed to have something hot in it (most likely soup) in a bowl on a tray. His white jacket was draped over his shoulders and his blue sleeves were pulled up to his elbows. Nick trotted over to the young man with a concerned and caring expression.

   "How are you feeling?"

   "A lil strange, but I cen manage..."Ellis went to sit up, but his head fell back down. That's when he realized why he felt so strange.

    From about his armpit down his left arm... was gone. He gasped and stared down at the wrapped up stump. "I...uhn....agh..." Ellis put his lone hand on top of his messy bed of curls, clutching a hand full of the locks, sobbing. Tears streamed down his ice blue eyes. He looked down under the blanket and noticed the deep and bandaged indentations from were he had been attacked at. He could see through the white t-shirt he wore and saw the bandages that covered claw marks, that would most likely be permanent. "I luk like a monstea...I caint even halp ya'll no more..."Ellis looked straight into Nick's emerald gems, soothed by his loving gaze. "Ima...evn moar useless then bafore..." clutched onto his hair tighter, looking down, completely ashamed. The emotional pain...it was far worse then the pain he felt before. He can take pain pills for physical pain, but there was nothing for him to take now.

    The older of the two set the tray on a table nearby. Nick calmly sat next to Ellis, who was now sitting up, and draped his not-so-white jacket on the smaller shoulders. "You aren't ugly Ellis...you're beautiful..." Nick couldn't believe the words escaping his own lips. The tears stopped dead in their tracks, a few still rolling down his cheeks."I'll protect you...forever. I will...and I'll make sure you're comfortable...I won't let anything or anyone hurt you...not again." Nick rubbed the tears off of Ellis's face, gently cupping it, making sure not to apply to much pressure to the wounds on his face.

   "Nick...ima...I love...yoo.." Ellis flushed, his face not being able to move, but his eyes casting down in embarrassment, his face becoming warm and flustered.

     "I think...I love you as well." Ellis clutched onto the man's blue dress shirt, as their lips met gently, beautifully.

      After a few moments of tender loving from Nick, he went to stand up, but Ellis gripped onto him weakly.

    "I should tell the others you're awake..."

     "No...stay...wit meh...jus a lil longer...so we can be together..."

    Nick sat back down and leaned over Ellis gently, kissing him even deeper then before, making all physical and emotional wounds leave the young man's soul...making love to him ,more gentle then he ever had anyone before. Because, unlike before...this mattered. Ellis mattered. And he always will...
