      The team had been...different, as of late. They were unusually quite and distant from one another. Even Ellis, who would never shut his trap, barely spoke a word. They would have been their normal selves...if they hadn't found 'IT'.

      They had found it two weeks ago. They were trailing through some nameless small town, when they entered it. A small orphanage, that was far to small to hold the number of children it did. Ellis was just rummaging through some boxes looking for supples when he felt a tug on his shirt.

   "Hunh?" He looked down, and there she was. A little girl. Only she wasn't normal...she was infected. Her blue dress was dirty and spotted with blood. Her fingertips were now sharpened claws, stained with her victims' blood. The girl's jaw unhinged, as acidic blood dripped from it, causing it to eat through part of Ellis's shirt, before he was pulled back by Nick. BANG! The gambler shot her straight center in her head.

  "You okay?" Nick said coldly.

   "Y-yeah..." Ellis fell on his bottom, covering his face. Soon, Rochelle and Coach joined them.

   "Oh God..." She looked down at the dead infected child, but she and Coach had to time to waste ogling at this horrifying sight. More infected children were coming.

    It seemed like horde after horde of the prepubescent zombies attacked them in that room. Ellis stayed behind the other three, far to shocked to even raise his gun.

    Coach said a small prayer and continued into another room after the assault has subsided.

    Ellis was yanked to his feet by Nick.

    "Come on, we have to keep looking..."Nick's voice was practically a scream. He said nothing else and followed in Coach's path.

     "Rochelle..." Ellis looked over to the only other person still remaining in the room with him. "....they was just kids..."

      "I know...Ellis...Oh God...I know..." She gripped onto him, as he began sobbing. Her eyes were dry, but her soul was bleeding. 'You're still innocent, Ellis.' She thought. 'You didn't have to kill them...we wouldn't have let you.'


      And now, two weeks later, the group had found a rather comfortable safe house, smack in the middle of a rather large town, with a rather well suppled mega store. At this particular time, Ellis had decided to go check out this behemoth store and grab some basic hygiene supplies, food, medical supplies, and a new shirt. He had been running shirtless the past few weeks, and was getting sick of the blood getting on his bare chest.

    As the young mechanic tossed in bath soap to the backpack he acquired in another part of the store, he dreamed about going back to the new, marvelous safe house they had found that had running hot water and taking the most delicious shower. Oh, he had never wanted to wash up so bad in his life. He became slightly embarrassed when he had to pick up 'supplies' for Rochelle, but still found what she had asked for.

    He trotted across the debris, humming to himself. He would cook everyone else up some nice food, take a hot bath, put on some new clothes, and hopefully break some of the negative energy.

    He opened the safe house door, smiling (for the first time since 'IT' happened) and expected to see everyone in the living room, were they had been before he left on his small journey. They weren't.

   "Were errybody at?" He shouted, almost excitedly. No answer. He ran into the kitchen, and instant dropped the backpack off his shoulder. "Ro...?" She laid flat on her face with a hole in her back. She had been shot. He feel to his knees, crawling towards her dead body. "Who did this ta ya...? Why?" He turned her over slowly, and nearly screamed when he saw her eyes open. He slowly closed them and hugged her tight, rocking her dead body. "Oh GAWD....RO!" He clenched tighter, but then let go gently. He had to check for the others.

   He found Coach on the stairs, in a similar situation. Ellis treated him the same way. "Coach...no..." Now, he just had to find Nick. Oh God...not Nick. Ellis loved everyone on his team, but...Nick...he was in love with the man. He had never admitted it, but he truly felt for the older man in a way that he had no one else.

   Ellis inhaled, before pushing open the door of Nick's room. He found the wiser man there, alive...with a gun in his hand and a dark look in his eyes. A demonic look. He sat on the edge of his bed, his dirtied white jacket hanging from his shoulders.

    "N-Nick...Ro and Coach 'err..."

     "I know...I did it..."

     Ellis backed against the corner as Nick began walking towards him. Cowering in fear, Ellis's blue eyes resembled that of a small animal, about to be devoured by its predator.

    "Don't worry, Ellis...I'm not going to kill you. I could never hurt you...you're innocent...still pure." Nick ran his hand up the boy's face, before gently flicking the hat off of his head. He embraced Ellis and kissed him lightly on his oversized lips. Then deeper. Before letting go. "It's my time to leave, Ellis..."

    "N-Nick...what're ya....no...Nick...dun..."

      BANG!

   The man's body landed on Ellis, along with the blood and brains that had been forced out by the bullet. Now, Ellis's entire chest was covered in blood as he caressed the corpse of the man he loved.

    "No...I ain't innocent...I ain't..."

    The truth was, Ellis had found an uninfected baby in that orphanage before he was attacked. How it could have possible survived, he didn't know, but it wouldn't for long. He knew that. So he had shot it. It was quick and painless, but Ellis had never felt so dirty or impure in his life. And now...that feeling had returned. And now...he was all alone.
