Collaboration with wrongheaded .

Oh, Finny. Why you gotta be this way? I love/hate Finny. On the one hand, of course it would be awesome if everyone was this way; completely without malice. On the other hand, you can see why Gene finds him so annoying.

Now on Required Reading , a literary parody webcomic.

Gene's book...
My group in ELA (We're talking about the Autumn Session) finds that so true.

So sorry for the late reply, but yeah, most of the kids in my class thought there was something going on between these two (especially with Gene wearing Finny's clothes and stuff, sheesh, no respect for personal boundries there!).

The book was actually banned for a while because of all those undertones.

I personally love Finny. I can kind of see how Gene finds him annoying, but Gene's got seriously jealousy issues to work out before he can really critisize Finny XD

Though this is hilarious. Adds a humorous twist to what was a tragic plot point in the book.

Thanks so much - he's an angry guy, isn't he? (I almost want to say "emo" - but he'd probably push me out of a tree, and I don't need any bone marrow poisoning right now ).

he really is eveyone is just like hes not him self he didnt mean it D: and im like =___= no hes just a bad person who makes the only person who acully likes him fall out of a tree (lol ya hes pretty emo but it wouldnt be a good idea to let him know that XD)

Thinston In reply to inkclaw88 [2010-11-01 21:34:29 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, he is a jerk. What really gets me: Phineas wasn't even his rival! His jealousy didn't make much sense. Phineas was the sports star and Gene was the academic star; Gene's rival was that other student (Chet? My memory's a bit fuzzy right now). All that tree-shoving for nothing.

inkclaw88 In reply to Thinston [2010-11-01 21:40:13 +0000 UTC]

ikr. exactly he was just being a paranoid jerk (ya chet) if anything he should have made chet fall from the tree

Thinston In reply to inkclaw88 [2010-11-01 21:42:32 +0000 UTC]

I honestly think that would have been more entertaining to watch. With Gene shouting, "Who has the highest GPA NOW?" and shaking his fist with rage as Chet plummets towards sure bone marrow trouble. Or a horrible pun like, "Looks like your class rank is FALLING..." Ugh, wait, no, that's terrible! Still.

Well, you're not alone...I understand that all the kids in the book are stressed about the War, but he is still a jerk. I don't dislike him as a character per se, but he's pretty crazy (the wearing Phineas's clothes stuff just shouts "stalker" to me, too).

I forgot about that! It's like some kind of horror film. Gene II: The Revenge. Just when you thought it was safe to jump out of a tree...

Aaaahahaha I didn't see this one! omg this is great Love your depiction of Gene. So much.

Thinston In reply to theTieDyeCloak [2010-10-30 01:24:38 +0000 UTC]

Sorry again for all the late replies! Thanks! Heh, yeah, I always see Gene as kind of cynical, grumpy, and surly. My friend who did the linework and colors told me he was trying to make Gene look progressively more and more like a supervillain! I don't really see him as evil or anything, but I guess he does have a few screws loose.

theTieDyeCloak In reply to Thinston [2010-11-03 20:09:35 +0000 UTC]

No prob at all, I'm generally a pretty late replier too! Haha I don't think Gene's evil either, but I just love the way he's depicted here sooo much! I love finding silliness in really serious books, and you have done a marvelous job of it here!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Thinston In reply to theTieDyeCloak [2010-11-04 10:10:50 +0000 UTC]

Ah, a kindred spirit! Yes, he's not evil, just...sort of nuts. Crazy in love? Maybe Phineas's love is his drug? Maybe I'm just quoting a bunch of pop songs...?

And thank you so much, very much appreciated. I am in love with your work. If I could, I would marry it.

And I also love the humor in serious books...helps you get through them sometimes (1984 was a hard read otherwise for my class the first time, without our childish snarking about Winston and Julia's love thang in their Love Shack...sigh, I'm not proud of myself).

theTieDyeCloak In reply to Thinston [2010-11-09 04:48:56 +0000 UTC]

Aw thanks so much!! I'm honored that someone would want to marry my work! Seriously though, thanks, that makes me feel happy I really love your stuff too, you have an awesome sense of humor
I actually haven't read 1984! Gotta put that on the list of classic literature to get to someday... Is it any good, or is it more Robinson Crusoe-esq in readability?

Really glad you liked it! And hah, "thought"? Half my class (at least) thought so way back when I read it, and years later, I still think so.

Let's face it: it is a pretty gay book. Gene/Finny forever.
