Description
This painting isn't exactly finished to my mind, but I had to stop because it was starting to drive me crazy. I guess that happens sometimes.Anyway,
This is David from Prometheus, the second and last of the Prometheus fan art pieces I've decided to make. Basically, these were practice for some new painting tricks I've been working on.
Now back to Sandbox.

Well, if you have any questions, feel free to ask.
Best of luck, buying a wacom is the first step into a very rewarding investment.

Well, I have trouble with the start of a digital drawing. Because it's totally different from traditional art. Also choosing the right program and tools to achieve an effect is very hard!

O.k, right program I can help you with right off the bat:
If you're just starting out, download Painttool Sai. Its free, ridiculously small, and thus works on every platform known to the IT world. It can't handle overly large files or anything, but since you're just starting out, that's not that big a problem.
There's also ArtRage, which is a relatively cheap program which is designed to emulated traditional media. Thus, it works the same way as a painting would, you're just painting on a digital canvas. If that type of thing is what you're going for, the premium packet to get is Painter, which does everything ArtRage does, just a little bit better.
However, the point of digital art, is that it is digital art. Why would you want to paint something with a wacom, just to make it look like you painted it on a canvas? Doesn't really make sense.
So, in my opinion, if you can afford Photoshop, get it. Your painting won't look anything like a traditional painting, since photoshop is more centered around photo-orientated effects and the like. It still the best all-round package for digital art out there.
Now, starting a digital drawing is usually a bit different from traditional media, but not overly so. to get you started, check out these free workshops from ImagineFX magazine: [link]
These workshops are responsible for about 70% of the stuff I know about digital painting. Download them, read them, and try them out- you won't be sorry.

Well, that's the thing, right?
I mean, at first you think he's working for Weyland, but as it turns out, he pretty much has his own agenda.
That spells sequel to me.

I have yet to see that movie, it looks amazing actually, and so does this picture. The suit reminds me a lot of Garrus' suit from the Mass Effect games, except there's a human in the suit xD

Haha, you know, you're the second person to say it resembles MA3 artwork, which says alot about that game's design.
The movie really wasn't half bad, I'd recommend it.

Those people are only focused on the flaws presented in the ending of the third game. Honestly, don't listen to them. If you have a 360, then I highly suggest you play the first Mass Effect, then the second one, and of course then the third. If you have a PS3, just get ME2 since ME1 isn't on PS3 (yes, it's stupid I know). It is an absolutely brilliant franchise and one of the best sci-fi games I've ever played. You'll love it from the very start. So I highly encourage you to play it.

I'm more of a PC guy myself, but I'm sure I can crash at a mate's for a month or two sometime.
I've been meaning to check them out for some time, I heard the story is really good, and that's something I value more than anything else in a game.
So thanks for the heads up, I'll definately be checking it out in the future!

Thinus, this is AMAZING! He really and truly was the only awesome character in that movie... Sigh... It still makes me sad... Everything was fine until the totally infeasible surgery... Then I just rolled my eyes and mourned. But this is a GORGEOUS pic!

Thanks alot, I really appreciate that!
Yeah, Fassbender and Rapace really stole the show- especially considering Rapace can't actually speak English.
Like I said, I kinda enjoyed the whole flick. Its not Alien, not by a long shot, but even Charlize Theron's...erm, stoic, performance wasn't that bad. It does have its flaws, I'll be the first to admit. But considering the fact that they travel through space at the speed of light, to another planter where Space Jockeys made ur-xenomorph dna to wipe out humans, the surgery seems, at least in the context of science fiction, sort of plausible.

But then running around like nothing happened for the rest of the movie? She must be superpowered! Sigh... So much beauty and meaning and metaphor and it got let down by that and the squashy, rolling Ouroborus...

Well, I've heard of worse things. Its got a lot to do with the character archetype. Like Ripley, she really needs a lot of incentive to become the person she needs to be to survive. Also, the medical tube thingy did say it applied anaesthetic, so there's that. The squid from hellboy it pulled out of her, also makes sense, since its supposed to be a progenitor to the whole xenomorph life cycle.

But that's the thing... I've had major anaesthetics (and morphine) and I couldn't even stand up on my own, regardless of how much adrenaline was coursing through my body at the time... yet she just ripped out her own umbilical cord and still managed to walk around like nothing happened, didn't go into shock, didn't collapse and stumbled a little like she had bad gas, not major surgery! That really bugged the living daylights outta me!
I LOVED the tentacle beast thingie though, that was awesomeness!

ThinusvanRooyen In reply to CaptainUnobservant [2012-06-20 05:38:04 +0000 UTC]
Well, did you have space anaesthetics, from a society that's advanced enough to travel through space? No.
So how do you know its not made that way? And besides, if I recall correctly, the tube did say "applying local anaesthesia". Yes, I know local anaesthesia doesn't work that way either, but again, this is SPACE anaesthesia.
The only gap in logic I don't very much like in the film is that ages-old concept that the creature just grows rapidly. I mean, where does all that mass come from? Do you have any idea how much food a human being has to eat to double his or her size?
But that I blame on the Hulk, not on Prometheus.

Hahahaha! Hulk ruined everything! But ja, I'll agree to disagree... I was honestly gobsmacked by the film until that part, then couldn't stop rolling my eyes... Sigh!
