I probably don't need to explain the connections with this one, since anyone who's anyone probably knows these two, but I will anyway.

They're two of the most iconic pets from comic strips and cartoons, capable of walking on their hind legs more intelligent than the average animal, even from their own series.
They're both arrogant and gluttonous troublemakers (though Garfield moreso) who cause problems for their awkward and clumsy owners (Jon Arbuckle and Charlie Brown), but have shown that they do genuinely love them.
Both are known for loving a specific Italian food (lasagna and pizza).
While both have caused trouble for a long list of people, they both have their personal favorite targets (Garfield loves messing with John and the mailman, while Snoopy consistently annoys Lucy and drags Linus by his blanket.)
They both have friendships with with different animal species (Garfield has befriended numerous other animals, while Snoopy is frequently depicted alongside Woodstock, a bird.)

This is also a battle of opposites:
While both tend to cause trouble, Garfield more consistently does so with selfish or malicious intent, while Snoopy usually does so either out of ignorance or because someone hurt him or his friends.
Garfield has shown that he's capable of speech in his animated appearances. While Snoopy does understand human speech, the closest he's come to actually talking in any of his media are his thought bubbles in the comic strips.
Finally, Cat VS Dog. 'Nuff said.
