Description Character Profile Form

Just some notes I've been meaning to lay out in a tutorial. This very much applies to humans too!! Don't discredit this as valuable information just because it has "stupid furries." It's just the genre I work easier in. Hope you guys find it helpful!

What if the character has some sort of scruffy hair or tattoos or something becasue HE thinks it looks cool? There is this one character of mine who is a real ham y'see, and he goes out of his way to dress up in a certain manner that he thinks is cool, but really doesn't fit his personality.

XD Then that's fine. There's always exceptions

Just out of curiosity, how do you know which physical traits imply which personality traits? It makes sense, when you point it out like this in the tutorial, but I would have never though of it before.

I dunno, I guess it comes from analyzing people a lot, profiling them in a way. I guess in a more obscure sense, something like phrenology XDDD

Beh. This is pure gold information, furries or not. It's the artist's loss if they pass up on good info just because of the subject used for an example.

Great information here.

i did something like that with a character of mine. little geek kitty. the more i added backstory, the more he changed until he went from a kitten in a lab coat to a scarred backed kitten with worried eyes... and a lab coat XD
its amazing what a detailed backstory can do for the design of a character.

This is really helpful since I'm going through a BIG change in my art style. It helps give great examples for how my older characters(Chazz, Arc, etc) will also be if I redesign them too~
Thanks for making, I love it!

I want to add more uniqe 'looks' to my characters so they won't be bland and similar. XD

Did you by any chance already make a tutorial on how to draw eyes on certian characters (from human to anthros)

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

ThirdPotato In reply to kajaart [2011-01-24 18:49:18 +0000 UTC]

Hm that's a good question. I don't think it matters whether it's for an anthro or human because both can have ALL kinds of different shapes and sizes. I have one on eye expression, perhaps that'll lead you in some kind of direction? [link]

Speaking of tutorials, might be asking for to much, BUT could you do a tutorial on how to make a nice fitting name to a story/comic/whatever?
I really have trouble with that one XD

This is one hell of a good thing to make <3

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

ThirdPotato In reply to OS9 [2011-01-24 19:10:38 +0000 UTC]

That's a good question, man XD Cuz holy crap it took me forEVER to try to settle on a name for my comic! But I'm glad you brought that question up! I've decided to post a blog about it, so this should answer your question! [link]

Thank you :3
As for my finalproject, I just want to ask if "CatNip" is a fitting name? you can read what it is about here [link] and see the preview with audio here : [link] . YES, it has "greaser music" XD

As you seem to be cloase to an expert, I found it good to ask you XDD

ThirdPotato In reply to OS9 [2011-01-24 20:48:37 +0000 UTC]

Thats exciting XD love the song there! I like that sorta 70s vibe you got going on there. Very retro. Upon first reading the word "catnip" and not seeing it put to the music, I didn't quite get the correlation, however the way you WROTE Catnip, it all comes together now XDDD so yes, that "logo" or title card basically, is a great way to brand yourself n.n

That'd be great! I think there are some great clubs here on DA for critiques and stuff too. It might be a good idea to join one of those too. It's great being able to get a bunch of people's input. or maybe even a poll?

Stupid furry tutorial that also works for stupid human features, tsh....
We all have eyes, limbs (sorry snakes...) and muscles (sorry exo-skeletonized critters) so the subject used shouldn't be THAT important if you know how to apply the points. I hope I don't catch somebody complain about it...

As easy as this is to understand for those of us interested in using physical traits to display personality, I've never seen it put forward in a way like this. It's very direct and easy to digest the information.

How much you wanna bet people will pass this off because, like you said, it has a "stupid furry" in it. This is precisely the thing that half the often-blasΓ© anthro fandom needs to see. Nice job!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

ThirdPotato In reply to lycanthropeful [2011-01-22 19:06:11 +0000 UTC]

Thank you so very much! And I agree, more particularly in the fur-fandom because people use crazy patterns and colors to try to make their character different. But I've always believe that a character design should be strong in black and white.
