Description Well, when Twilight had broke the news to a young Ember that she'd never be able to fly like a pegasus, or wink in and out like a unicorn, what do you think she did?

Did the little earth pony slowly grow up and passively accept her fate over the years?

Maybe eventually take a mate and be content to live out the rest of her years in Dream Valley, never even wondering what lay in wait for her beyond the safe, sheltering purple mountains standing sentinel over the rolling meadows?

NO WAY HOSAY

Not THIS little pony, folks! Why, practically the very first thing she did after her first taste of adventure during the events at Midnight Castle, was to boldly venture far outside of Dream Valley- no! Far beyond Ponyland itself even! - to get herself a magical horn and a flashy pair of lavender wings.

Which she eventually did, of course.

But not before stumbling onto countless high flyin' adventures! I'm talkin' dragons, sages, castles, faeries, enchanted forests, mermaids, pirates, goblins, sea serpents, and ghouls! Why, once, she even had to attend one of Porcina's so-called dinner parties!!

So one can see why she was naturally honored as a legendary heroine once she finally returned to Dream Valley years later. I mean, anyone who can survive The Glass Princess' cooking can be nothing short of immortal.

So you're probably saying to yourself right about now; "Gee, I sure wish this dumb cat would quit blabbering about old 80's stuff while I'm trying to sleep"

Well put on your upsetting shorts, kids, 'cause she's not done yet!

Now, all unicorns have a specific power locked away inside those horns, right? Fizzy can conjure up bubbles, Gusty can create strong winds, Ribbon's a real mind-reader (literally!)

So what's Ember over here got up her sleeve- er... hoof? Well, it's simple really; I figured since she's got that there star symbol, and since the five-pointed star used to represent the five elements Earth, Fire, Water, Air, and Aether (or Ether if you prefer. Outer space, basically ), Ember should definitely be an elemental pony!

Sure kicks the ass out of blowing bubbles, eh Miss Legendary? Now that's what I call a REAL unicorn! And the concept even fits well with her natural, canon self. I mean, sure! Remember how they could never decide on a colour for the Ember toy, so they just produced all those pink, blue, and off-white ones? I'll bet she changes colours whenever she uses her elemental magic.

Oh and, uh, if you managed to sit through the entirety of this exasperatingly boring, long winded artist's comment, then you get a free Cherry Squid cherry pie! Yup. And all you have to do is reach your nice clean hands deep into my waxy cat ears and into the hallow of my skull, and pluck one out!

Just be careful of that vicious little cephalopod, though. His stomach's got the rumblies. That only hands can satisfy.

I know, right? I wish someone would make a full story out of it.

What's funny is, check the date. This was drawn before Tia and Lulu existed. The artist just thought, well, what the description says. It just works *so well* with what FIM established, which happens a lot; makes sense since Lauren Faust did grow up a G1 fan. You can see Ember the Original CMC going in search of her special talent, finding out what she *can* do if not all the other things the other ponies do, getting into all kinds of scrapes, and finally one ends with her somehow absorbing a metric buttload of magic that only an alicorn can contain at the climax. Is she going to be vaporized? No, her body adjusts to control it all, and... behold Ember, your new goddess. Mama Twilight will be so proud. Or terrified.

I think Mama Twilight would be both...I have a headcanon that Ember is a daughter of Twilight too, an adopted one.

Me too, lol. It's funny, every fanfic seems to agree that she's Twilight's daughter but not her biological one. I was all set to say she is the biological daughter of Twilight and G1 Night Light, but then I got a better idea for Ember's origin that I plan to write someday.

Interesting. In my headcanon, G1 Twilight is Twilight Sparkle's auntie, though there would be 3 Twillights (better than the Twilight trilogy though )...

I don't really connect the universes, though I do think it's fun to put characters from one series into another in a Transformers sort of way (Prime Optimus is *like* G1 Optimus but nobody is saying it's literally him. In the case of the Twilights, to me G1 Twilight already has an FIM counterpart, Twilight Velvet. But, I would not be above giving Twilight Velvet a relative who was a purple pegasus with a candle cutie mark and whose best friend is a mare named Locket, though.)

Heh. If you don't really, there was another pony named Twilight, a purple pegasus, in Flight to Cloud Castle. She needs more love. So to me, the unicorn Twilight's counterpart in FIM is Twilight Velvet, while the pegasus needs one. Could make her Velvet's sister or mom or fourth cousin twice removed by a fifth cousin.

Normally I love to connect things, and have these theories about completely unrelated shows... and there are a lot of good fanfics connecting different MLP gens by saying what happened over the years to turn one series' world into another. So I can't really say *why* I don't see the MLP gens being connected like that. But I prefer the multiverse idea with them.

Yeah, I heard about that pegasus named Twilight...I agree, the cousin thing makes sense. What "twice removed" mean though?

to get herself a magical horn and a flashy pair of lavender wings.

You know, I like this idea. I should be a full-fledged story. I like the idea of going outside of Ponyland as well. Considering what we did see of that world, it would be interesting to see other lands that the ponies could travel to.

Also, it sounds like a book I used to read all the time when I was little, The Unicorn Who Had No Horn. Good read.

I've never heard of that book. What is it about, aside from the obvious?

SacredCandybar In reply to EcliptorCalrissian [2016-02-10 21:23:37 +0000 UTC]

It's an old children's book I used to have.  Basically, this one "unicorn" (hard to say she's a unicorn at that point, seeing as how she doesn't have the horn yet), doesn't have a horn.  Unicorns can normally make music with their horn and use it as a compass when they fly.  This little unicorn goes to the oldest, wisest unicorn in her herd and asks if she could get one herself.  The old, wise unicorn tells her that she can get her own horn if she goes to this place called the Valley of the Crystals.   So she flies off hoping to find it.  Along the way, she meets some owls who need a new home (their tree was destroyed by lightning), and a lonely oak tree.  Once she helps them out, they tell her where the Valley of Crystals is located.   After that, I can't remember the specifics, but she does get her horn.

Now what Ember here might not know is she's got competition. Yep - something that not only can fly, not only can wink out, but can also dive as deep as she wants just like a sea pony. What's that Ember? Who could it be? Well I don't know if anyone's beat you to it yet dearie, but the being in question is called an almaricorn - and here's a picture of one: [link]

Please don't make us have to look for the MLP episode guides. Some of us are male.

Some of us males actually know what she's talking about.

Anyway, what she's telling you isn't really covered in any MLP episodes. Ember appears once - in the very first half-hour cartoon of MLP and is never seen nor heard from again. The toy line produced four different colored ponies named 'Ember', only one of whom had a marking.
