Description
On May 24th Bulgarians honor saints Bear-- er... Cyril and Methodius for inventing the Cyrillic alphabet. Technically. I mean, from what I've read it sounds more like Cyril invented this other script called Glagolic, Methodius just kinda came along for the ride and helped him translate stuff into it, and their students thought it was too complicated so they whittled it down into Cyrillic and named it after one of their dead teachers because Methodius gets no hugs.Did I mention they were half Bulgarian? Probably. I mean, their Wiki article says they were born to a Greek father and Slavic mother in Thessalonica, but back in the 800s that was, like, within jogging distance of the First Bulgarian Empire's border and you don't get that close to a country without some cultural and ethnic spillage. Plus, Glagolic was based on a preexisting Slavic dialect spoken in the southern Balkans which encompasses Bulgaria, so we can be 99% certain their mother was from there. If you wanted to look it at that way, you could say Cyrillic was invented by both the Bulgarians and Greeks, so--
You know what? Forget Glagolic, this description is too complicated. How do you Europeans put up with this? You've all got your hands in each others' histories, you change your names and borders every other decade, and everything stretches back so far half the puzzle is missing! Washington's left glute, I'm so relieved my country's only two centuries old right now. :'D

Brings to mind an awesome image of St. Christopher portrayed with the head of a dog, much like Anubis to Ancient Egypt. Your own art here compliments the Bulgarians saints nicely with them as bears, and shameless, but funny word play in their names. Orthodox Christian icons are always very artistic and with such vibrant colours. Ever so beautiful, Crispy.
