Description
Had you all going with that one teaser, right? Yeah, I know I didn't. Anyways, this thing was SUCH a pain to make, especially the hair. This was my first time working with those little plastic joints, and I've made SO many mistakes. Her hair is made of INDIVIDUALLY UNWOUND STRANDS OF YARN. That was the most painstaking part, I must say, but I am pleased with the results. The fabric is called "minkie", and she is the softest thing in the entire world. (I am taking challenges!) The paws were done with good ol' 'Invisible Thread', which was my first time working with it, and I loathe it. Too flimsy, but does what it needs to. The face is ceramics, with an eggshell clay. I don't think you can see the blush details, and luckily you can't see the clay body's IMMOBILE PRESENCE, as it bursts forth in angry splotches. Ah well. Feathers are feathers. The tail actually has wire in it, for POSABLE ACTION (action action action...).
When it's not 2 degrees out, I'll take some better pictures in natural lighting. God, I love natural lighting.
Also, LARGEPICISLAAAAAAAARGE.
Download for full view, it's actually pretty detailed.

'Minkie' is my new favorite fabric. It's non-fraying, super soft, and just AWESOME. I plan to abuse it at all future ventures.
And I have to say DAUM, this is awesome! The face is CERAMIC? EPIC. She's so pretty The ears are really nicely placed and I like how her legs splay out.
I got some of those plastic joints but have not tried them yet - how do they work?? I've done button jointing tho...I get that.
Only thing that could be improved I think is the wings - they could be more shapely they are kind of like fluffy blobs - lol XD!

Minkie is a godly fabric. I'd never used it before, and picked up a pseudo-minkie grey-black yard of fabric for THREE DOLLARS the other day. -crosses fingers- I agree, but my local store only carried that one type for a very short while. Looks like it's JoAnn's for me, but at least I can navigate there now. @ w@
Thank you so much! I wanted the ears to have a more realisticly palced/lion feel to them. Expect MANY more ceramic dolls, I've got two and about 3/4 sets of doll parts for upcoming ones (LOLOLOL AP class concentrations. No chance I'll make it unless I BS the last few with sculpey or something) and will be making armatures tomorrow morning, actually. Thanks for reminding me. XD
I ADORE ADORE AND ADORE ONCE MORE button jointing... Haven't tried it yet, wtf. Plastic joints are nice when you're looking for a really sleek, "I AM ONCE PIECE, BAAAHAHAHAH" look, and it depends on the thickness. Once you've got them on, they are on for GOOD, unless you plan to destroy them in order to get them off. I learned this the hard way with her left leg, it's in a constant state of falling off. For some reason or another, I thought minkie wasn't slick enough to be able to let the leg glide, and left one part of the plastic between the leg and body. The holes for the joints would stick with the two to hold it on, but with one in the middle... NO.
I like the real hand-made, sorta folksy look that the button jointing gives, but I'm too much of a pussy to try it/I'm afraid of screwing it up. I'll have to make a test doll soon.
Yeaaaah... I really wanted to have an actual wing look, but was unsure of how to give the bends in the wings without having the binding material glare at you. White feathers are unkind. Also, I had a bit of a deadline to get it in, and half-assed it at the point, honestly. She's mine for good as far as I can tell, and I don't really care. XD
TL;DR always makes me feel like some type of whore or something. I like to listen to myself... type? Oh god.

Ooooh! So this is where the "creepy" face was destined for. I love it! Still awesome, especially with those hooded eyes. You handled this so well, it could have come out looking very comical, while now it just looks slightly sinister. I really like this! *steals* I love that face!
Watch the plastic joints, they tend to break easily. If you are doig someting that's going to be repositioned a lot, try a lock-nut joint.

It's the two discs kind, I was unaware of them being fragile! Thanks for the tip.
Well, she's gotta look sinister, witting up by Thebes and goin' "BITCH YOU DUNNO MY RIDDLE? -NOM NOM NOM NOM-"
Thank you so much! I'm really proud of her. You also reminded me I forgot to bring my doll parts home to get their bodies done for class. -dies-

Oh no! *resuscitates* (bad spelling, very bad spelling)
Very true, she has to look sinister! Almost part of the job description You should be proud, she's lovely!
The plastic ones are okay, just not up to as heavy use as the other kind. She should be fine ^^

Awesome! I like how you made the face. Ironically enough, I hate normal thread XD. Where did you get the Minky and the plastic joints? I searched all over... One last thing, POSABLE ACTION FTW.

I got the Minky at a store called G Street Fabric, and the joints at AC Moore. X3 I looked for minky last night, to no avail! I bet they moved it. (Ran in 10 minutes before closing)

I have a pattern drawn up and ready to go, just gotta sew and cut! Once again, I'm SO corry for the wait!

I'm so relieved. X3 I've been feeling awful about it since it's been going on for SUCH a long time, I've had a lot of crazy things happen recently, but nothing that'd cut my hands off or anything, haha.
