Description
After talking to a friend about copper, I decided to add these copper bands, made a couple of years ago. When I'm thinking of making something in silver, as a poor hobbyist, I first make a hole bunch of it in copper. This works with plate as well as wire. With wire, I use scraps of electrical wire, which is available in many heavy gauges. I was obviously in one of my twisted wire phases with these. I've made dozens of copper bands, mainly in very small sizes so I could give them away to children: training jewelry to get them addicted. They're your future customers.
It's a terrible photo! but all my bands are now gone. I'm not entirely sure if that is a dog hair or a cat hair.

I love these twists. The one that's standing up is my favorite one. That would make an awesome tripple stacking rings in silver!

I'm an aries, so seem to have a natural fondness for copper... too bad I react to it FAST, and turn green right away, so I don't get to wear it *G*

Same with me. I turn bright green immediately - my chemistry is dissolving the metal. Some copper pieces can be plated with silver on the inside to avoid this.

Thanks. And to think, I sat on that picture for a long while because I thought the bands were a bit elementary for DA.

nah, people appreciate craftmanship and just because something might be kind of easy to do, it still takes some talent to execute well. And remember, it might not be as easy to do as you think it is it's just something you're good at.

Hey, thanks. I think you were my first friend on DA.

They look great! I have made a few myself in the past and am wondering how the ring standing up on the left was made? Looks like an interesting twist.
"hair of the dog" I think, not sure if you use that expression.

I almost hate to say, it's so simple. I took three wires, twisted them & spot soldered it along it's length. Then I anchored one end to the anvil & used a planishing (? a smooth flat-faced) hammer to flatten it, adjusting the twist slightly with pliers at the loose end if the weave looked off. It made a number of rings, even skipping the sections that didn't meet inspection. The hard thing was to get the weave to meet perfectly at the soldered joint or the make an exact size. With a mandrel & raw-hide hammer, they stretch considerably though.
And thanks!

Thanks, I will give it a go later. Its amazing the different combinations for twisting and hammering.
The ones that I have made with just two wires. I twisted, cut to length, then hammered up to size on the ring mandrel. After the first couple it gave me a good idea as to the required length to roughly get the right finished ring size.

I love it! Is it difficult to do? I'm starting to deal with this kind of things ehehe...
I love the simplicity and complexity of those... and the photo as well! ^^

I dislike the photo for DA purposes because it doesn't show the technical details.
The whole idea is experientation & fun. Work with single heavy gauge wires: round, faceted or squared, using a hammer or a draw-plate or a rolling-mill. Use multiple wires, twisted or otherwise. Do rings with set stones [link] , or banlges. Anything you can or will do with silver wire. It is good exercise because the joints must be perfect or the silver solder will show.
