Alone in the darkness, he slipped the book into his pocket and stepped out into the pouring rain. There was nothing left to do then but wander, to walk between the pools of light and racing cars. The warm air from the vents provided some comfort while his search went on, but hunger gnawed away. "Hello there!" shouted an elderly woman, plump but kind in her expression, "You look like you could use a place to stay?" With harrowed eyes, he nodded, and entered her cottage in the woods. Strange that one moment you could somewhere and sometime else than previously. "You might try taking it out of your pocket you know!" She said with a smile, "Carrying around something like that for too long will drive you mad." The book. He had forgotten. Reaching into his pocket, he took out the book and, hesitantly, set it on the table of the library. "I... I don't understand... How is this possible?" I asked in a dazed tone. "Not yet, perhaps, but one day you will," spoke the librarian to her new apprentice.
