Description So, ~AN-Pseudonym and I were talking about how Mello and Near's character designs were swapped at the last minute (Mello originally looked like Near and Near looked like Mello), and we both decided to try drawing Near in Mello's leather outfit.

XD Here is mine...as odd as it may be, I think the boots he's wearing really add to the outfit. I tried to make him posing like Mello, confidently, rather than his own usual shy mannerisms.

Next maybe I'll try drawing Mello acting/dressing like Near...if I can pull off drawing Mello at all. Still having trouble with that...LOL.

Here's the picture ~AN-Pseudonym came up with--in color, 'cause she's not as lazy as me: [link] I love the fact that Rod Ross is in it--Near looks SO tiny next to him. XD

Near and Mello are from the anime/manga Death Note, and belong to Tsugumi Ohba and Takeshi Obata.

I give permission to the clubs I'm in to re-post this in their galleries and link back to the original.

I never did draw Mello dressed as Near, unless the chibified one counts.

lol, I love this concept. Near usually does that smirk though. Great work.

Thanks! Yeah, I figured even if Near was trying to smirk like Mello would, his mouth shapes this way when he smirks. That's a part of how he looks he just can't change, hehe

Beware the quiet, cute looking ones....

(As I'm one of them, I think I have some liberty to say this?)

Yes, you have liberty to say it. You would know from experience, right?

RuneQuicksilver In reply to Threshie [2009-01-12 03:54:46 +0000 UTC]

Yes. I consider myself quiet. I have been called cute for my age.

And all of my friends know they can't prank me to save their lives. When they've tried, it's always backfired on them.

Threshie In reply to RuneQuicksilver [2010-03-12 22:43:11 +0000 UTC]

LOL; I'd say Near would be difficult to prank as well.

RuneQuicksilver In reply to Threshie [2010-03-18 04:43:51 +0000 UTC]

You'd have to do something so stupid and unexpected that even Near wouldn't suspect it...boy would that be hard!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Threshie In reply to RuneQuicksilver [2010-03-18 23:07:33 +0000 UTC]

Maybe if you did what Light did in that *SilentReaper comic, pretending to be so stupid it ruled you out as even a potential threat? That might work.

RuneQuicksilver In reply to Threshie [2010-04-18 21:46:31 +0000 UTC]

Haha, I probably wouldn't have to do any acting to pull THAT off *shot*

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Threshie In reply to RuneQuicksilver [2010-04-19 07:28:29 +0000 UTC]

I have a feeling that even if he'd never met you, Near would feel an odd sense of familiarity talking to somebody so similar to himself. Which might actually make him uncomfortable talking to you, actually.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

RuneQuicksilver In reply to Threshie [2010-04-20 20:51:05 +0000 UTC]

Heh, I always figured that Near wouldn't get along with me...just because we're so similar But that's okay somehow

leatherfeathers [2008-12-12 20:20:07 +0000 UTC]

Oh, you guys are so entertaining!
Indeed, Near does have that Mello-esque, egotistical look on his face.
Great job!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Threshie In reply to leatherfeathers [2008-12-13 00:04:45 +0000 UTC]

It felt so odd to draw Near in such a confident, poised kind of pose instead of his usual very shy posture... I couldn't quite manage to draw him in the wide-eyed, staring-off-into-nowhere-with-chocolate-hanging-from-teeth pose Mello gets while thinking, though. XD;

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

leatherfeathers In reply to Threshie [2008-12-13 04:30:36 +0000 UTC]

LMAO!
Yeah, I think the last one would be a real challenge.
Man, I wonder how Mello kept his hormones in check. I mean, acne is very common in teens, and apparently chocolate secretes some kind of.. acne-causing hormone?
Goodness. Think of the pimples! XD

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Threshie In reply to leatherfeathers [2008-12-13 04:36:09 +0000 UTC]

Somebody once drew a fanart addressing the concept of Mello's chocolate giving him pimples, actually. I don't know where it is, but it exists! I've seen it!

I think personally with his super-fast metabolism, Mello, like L, is not affected badly by all of the junk that he eats!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

leatherfeathers In reply to Threshie [2008-12-13 04:40:14 +0000 UTC]

Grr, if only I had that superpower. I'd eat chocolate all the time. And laugh as everyone around me would be jealous of my eating-but-not-gaining powers. *superhero pose*
Or would it be supervillain, as I'd be using my powers for spite?

I must hunt down that deviation!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Threshie In reply to leatherfeathers [2008-12-13 04:47:46 +0000 UTC]

I have a super-fast metabolism--I can eats pounds of chocolate and not gain any weight, so you might say that "superpower" is true!

It was either a Deviation or a YouTube comic-turned-animation...that's all I recall. It wasn't by an artist I am familiar with, so I can't tell you their name, sadly.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

leatherfeathers In reply to Threshie [2008-12-13 17:38:28 +0000 UTC]

No fair! I used to have a metabolism like that, and then I hit puberty. XD
Aww. Now I can't make one, because I'm aware that it's already been done

Threshie In reply to leatherfeathers [2008-12-14 22:01:17 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, mine is inherited from my dad--who eats every hour or two, eats anything he wants (which is usually carb-filled, and often includes either mayonnaise or peanut butter), and is rail-thin.

leatherfeathers In reply to Threshie [2008-12-15 01:42:32 +0000 UTC]

Mayo. Ewws XD
I inherited wide hips and a big butt from my mom and nan. Oh well, at least I'm tall to kind of even them out a little.

Threshie In reply to leatherfeathers [2008-12-15 01:47:23 +0000 UTC]

I have a pear figure--my hips are the widest part of my body. Because of my fast metabolism, though, thankfully my hips aren't TOO big. XD; I'm kind of tall, too; 5'8"

leatherfeathers In reply to Threshie [2008-12-15 20:09:56 +0000 UTC]

XD

XDDD LOL! Yeah, I have trouble with my belly sticking out because my lower back curves a lot. Need to flatten the abs... >>;

My bra size is NA ("Nearly A", but I like to joke that it stands for "Not Applicable" XD I'm not embarrassed, I actually like having a smaller chest.)

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

leatherfeathers In reply to Threshie [2008-12-28 21:26:57 +0000 UTC]

^^ I'm glad you like having a smaller chest. It's hard to find people comfortable in their own skin.
Ugh, all I want is enough to have a bit of cleavage. I don't want a B cup or anything. I want a large A. But that's too much to ask apparently

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Threshie In reply to leatherfeathers [2008-12-28 21:37:25 +0000 UTC]

XD; I could have cleavage only if I wore a pushup bra...and even then, it'd have to be one of those kinds that squishes them together so they're too far to the middle and look funny to somebody used to drawing anatomy like me.

Heck, I'm happy with how I look for the most part. I could work out more to tone, but I'm not gonna complain since that's my own laziness' fault.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

leatherfeathers In reply to Threshie [2008-12-28 21:55:27 +0000 UTC]

^^ I'm quite lazy too, but am fairly happy with what I look like, despite not being toned.
I can get cleavage if I push them together with a lot of effort, bend down, and bring my shoulders in.

XDD; LOL...laments of the flat-chested. *pats your head* Look on the bright side--we don't have them in our way if we want to do archery! (My sister, who is very busty, says they got in the way a LOT during our archery classes XD; )

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

leatherfeathers In reply to Threshie [2008-12-28 22:10:21 +0000 UTC]

Haha, and... If we decide to go jogging we don't have them slapping our faces (a hyperbole of course, but.. a half-true story in the least ^^
Nor will they weigh us down in our older years!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Threshie In reply to leatherfeathers [2008-12-29 01:36:49 +0000 UTC]

Yes, indeed. There are definitely pluses to being small-chested (or indeed flat-chested. XD; ) I don't have to wear sports bras! When I cosplay guys, I can just go braless and nobody notices! *Did this when cosplaying Mello last time*

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

leatherfeathers In reply to Threshie [2008-12-29 02:13:57 +0000 UTC]

I don't think I'd want to go braless just in case someone notices (let's just say I get cold easily ) Heck, I even wore my bra to bed for years XD
But it would come in handy for cosplaying (has never done it XD Damn small town I live in! )

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Threshie In reply to leatherfeathers [2008-12-29 02:39:57 +0000 UTC]

XD LOL...my Mello vest is quilted and so I didn't have to worry about the "gets cold easily" problem (which happens to me as well. )

Sleeping in a bra is supposed to be bad for you.

Yes, I heard that recently too. I've stopped now. Maybe it's just my hopeful imagination but they appear to be growing a little ever since their freedom
You have a Mello vest? *whines* I want a mello vest! XD

Threshie In reply to leatherfeathers [2008-12-29 03:23:21 +0000 UTC]

Hehe...I don't know about that, I used to wear B bras and now I wear NAs! (That MIGHT just be because I didn't know how to tell which size I needed, though. )

I do! It was modified from a Goodwill find so that it has the right rounded type of zipper pull (I like accuracy in cosplay XD; )--originally it was white with bright red plaid! I hand-dyed it black and my mom modified the collar and shortened it to make it bare midriff. Here's a pic of me in it: [link] (L and Near are my sister and niece respectively! )

Yeah, one of my friends who's my size (at least, it looks like it ) says she wears a C. I don't say anything but I have a feeling it;s not quite right...

I'm from a little town with no cosplayers that I know of besides my own family members. I just commute to Seattle yearly for Sakura-Con! And now there's Aki-Con in Everett, which I attended the first year of this year. That photo is from Aki-Con.

XD; Yeah, some people aren't as comfortable with having a small chest as you or I, LOL

Near in leather... Hmm. Confusing!
I love the fact that Near's pants aren't as eye-wateringly tight as Mello's are, and that facial expression is just too cute!

Threshie In reply to captain-farand [2008-12-12 02:54:21 +0000 UTC]

In the manga, Mello's pants actually aren't THAT tight--they even have wrinkles in them and stuff.

Near's smirk is adorable when I draw it right. This was one of those successful times I think, hehe

captain-farand In reply to Threshie [2008-12-12 09:39:45 +0000 UTC]

Wow - wrinkles... I guess they're not tight after all!

I agree - Near's smirk is just generally cute (which makes him even more scary at times!), and he is downright adorable in this pic!
