I originally planned to draw in a toy for Near to be holding, but then I realized his hands were in a really odd pose to be holding any particular kind of toy I could think of...and so he ended up holding an "invisible toy" (e.g. playing mind games with Mello on whether he actually believes he's holding anything or not. 
)This ought to have the height difference right--Near's half a foot shorter than Mello.
I don't know, I might have actually made Near a little too tall here. 
Also, Near's wearing the undershirt that he wears beneath his pajama shirt here so that I could do a size comparison for their shoulders. This is really a comparison picture at heart. 
Near and Mello are from the anime/manga Death Note, and belong to Tsugumi Ohba and Takeshi Obata.

Near would probably purposefully make one visible trap so that Mello would end up skiriting that one right into the invisible one. Either that, or create an elaborate trap that's totally invisible and have Mello trip it

Just to show how comfortable he is at home, around the people he...loves...Near walks around with an invisible toy (adorable) in only an under-shirt. Priceless!

XD LOL! The "...loves..." is about accurate. I personally think, like L, Near's kind of on his own wave-length as far as other people are concerned. If you're so smart that you're estranged from other people and anti-social/hide away, it goes to reason that you'd adopt some peculiar habits and genuinely wouldn't care what others thought of them.

Yeah, I don't think anyone can avoid alienating L and Near to a certain extent. You and I both do it in our works, and it takes little to no effort. I mean, even appearance-wise, they stand apart from others.

Well, yeah, if you spend your whole life pretty much doing your own thing and ignoring social interaction entirely (Near) or almost entirely (L? Not sure, if he played tennis as a teen and stuff then he probably had SOME sort of social life...), you're bound to not understand other people very well.

My version of the L program was very...cold, and dark. That is until Abner came along. L needed him to keep the rest of the potentials from losing their minds just as A and B had. Abner could see the flaws in the program that Quillsh, as an inventor, and L, as...well L, could not. It was always Abner's advantage, ever since he and L were children.

Abner's another OC. I needed someone who could play off of L. They're...friends in a kind of way, only in the sense that Abner 'needed' L. L really doesn't need anyone, not that he'd admit anyway. Abner is also a genius, but everyone's pretty sure that L's smarter. Abner never denies this claim. He only smiles and remains silent. They have chess match when they first meet each other, it takes place of the course of several days...but that's actually one of the key parts of hte story, so I won't say any more.

love it and I agree with the comment about holding the hands up to the chest. The girls in anime are always doing it and I think it looks stupid. Great drawing, amazing work as usual.

LOL...yeah, girls in anime do that to try and "pose" I think. I don't know, maybe it's actually a common mannerism for girls to do in Japan. At any rate, it's not really a natural pose to me, so I try to avoid drawing people doing that too much.
